"However, vampires only get to pick one bondslave in their lifetime."
"Okay," Bel said. Davien had made it seem like it was something more special. It sounded like the human was stuck giving blood to the vampire until they died. That didn't sound very appealing.
"What are you thinking?" he asked, noticing the creases on her forehead. It took a lot for him to not try to smooth them out.
"That doesn't sound very appealing," she said, repeating the thought in her head.
"I'm not done. Bondslaves are required to wear their blood gem always. It isn't just a gem—it's made from the blood of the vampire. Usually, vampires take blood from humans, but to offer their own blood is a gift. It's considered the highest form of respect or intimacy a vampire could ever give a human. A vampire chooses their bondslave very carefully."
Davien stared intensely into Bel's eyes as he spoke, his arm still holding her as they stood close to the edge of the pool of water.
