Aegis leaned back on his throne, his eyes narrowing as he gazed at Nyx, who stood confidently before him. The tension between them was palpable, each sizing up the other, wondering who would make the first move.

"I cannot trust you just like that, Nyx," Aegis said, his voice low and dripping with suspicion. "You suddenly show up here, wanting to be on my side? It does not add up."

Nyx's expression remained calm, almost serene, as if she had anticipated his skepticism. "I understand your reservations," she replied smoothly. "Trust is not something given freely; it must be earned. If it helps, put me on probation. Let me prove my loyalty to you."
