Chapter 174: Time for a Career Change?

"Haha! Those damn mercenaries!" A-91 chuckled from her hiding spot among the ruins upon hearing the heavy machine gun fall silent, accompanied by shouts from the mercenaries facing RFB. It was time to teach these mercenaries, who had underestimated them, a lesson.

With the grenade launcher loaded under her barrel, A-91 emerged from cover.

However, just as she pulled the trigger, the heavy machine gun roared back to life from within the smoke!

Boom!

The grenade exploded, but a 12.7mm bullet precisely hit A-91's chest!

Snap!

The bullet pierced her protective suit, and A-91 fell backward with a shattering sound!

"A-91!"

MP5 rushed to her side, checking her injuries anxiously, fearing the worst.

Seeing the liquid flowing from A-91's suit breach, MP5 panicked. They had survived the Doll Rights Protection Association's assault, only to fall into the hands of mercenaries here!

As the smoke cleared, MP5 saw that despite two grenades being fired, the heavily armored mercenaries remained unscathed. Even though some small shrapnel lodged in their suits, it didn't penetrate them.

"A-91! Stop using high-explosive rounds! They're useless! Switch to armor-piercing grenades!" P90 shouted desperately over the comms. She had emptied an entire magazine of bullets to no avail.

However, no one paid attention to her. Their submachine gun bullets were like plastic pellets against these heavily armored mercenaries. P90 and MP40 felt helpless as their weapons were disregarded, their efficacy reduced to that of toys.

"What should we do? These guys aren't afraid of our weapons at all!" C96 anxiously exclaimed over the communication channel. With the mercenaries' resilience, it seemed nearly impossible to eliminate them, even with all their spare ammo.

Although M200 and RFB had taken out two mercenaries, the rest were now on high alert, completely ignoring the attacks from all other T-Dolls and finding cover from M200 and RFB's assault.

With nearly invincible mercenaries and forty of them in total, how could they possibly win?

...

"Do you think the commander will take action this time?" MG3, squatting beside G36, asked curiously.

Glancing at Renault, who was relighting a cigarette, G36 shook her head. "Unlikely, unless the mercenaries come to him."

G36 and MG3 were both equipped with MG3 machine guns. However, against the heavily armored mercenaries, their effectiveness was limited. G36 preferred to rely on her powered exoskeleton, wielding her chainsaw and shield for better results.

"If it were up to me, I'd charge right in. Human bodies are so fragile compared to ours; a little force and they'll break. It's easier to just snap their spines," SPAS-12, hiding behind another set of ruins, eagerly suggested.

Ever since she had cleared a large group of mercenaries with her axe last time, she had developed a liking for this feeling of invincibility. Although knocking people down with her imprinted weapons was satisfying, wielding the axe with the powered exoskeleton felt smoother.

"Incendiary grenades would be nice too," Vector chimed in, having replaced all of AGS-30's ammunition with incendiary grenades.

Her preference was clear, and what other reason did she need?

Hearing their conversation, M1911 and P38 exchanged a glance. However, Nagant Revolver, having fought infected creatures before, felt disdain for her two MG3 machine guns.

"I also think the machine guns are of little use. We'll have to replace them eventually. Charging in with breaching axes seems more practical," she suggested.

Hearing the discussion over the comms, BM59 turned to Simonov beside her. "Hey, Simonov, how did you actually take out those infected creatures when we first arrived?"

"Huh? Did I not mention it? We just used axes," Simonov replied, patting the breaching axes equipped on all the powered exoskeletons.

"Huh... So it really was just axes. Are we going to change careers and stop being tactical dolls?"

With all the recent time spent in the repair factory and the commander setting up a vertical farm...

At this rate, they might end up working on the farm every day instead of fulfilling their duties as tactical dolls...

"How could that be possible? We've just learned a few extra skills, nothing major. What's the difference? Some advanced dolls are experts in various fields. I've only learned how to wield an axe; it's not as dramatic as you're making it out to be," Simonov shrugged, she was confident that the mercenaries posed no real threat to A-91 and the others below.

These mercenaries were not like G&K's simulated targets or Sangvis low-level dolls. It was normal for them to employ some tactics.
