Chapter XL: The Last Patrol!

Last Time

Washington D.C. December 3, 10:00 EST.

In her hanger, Fury was watching the news, then suddenly pulled out a blade as she spun around, bringing the blade inches from Nyssa's throat. "Why the hell are you here?"

Nyssa stared at her before speaking. "I want to break the Light."

Fury's only response to that is a loud laugh. Once she's finished, she looks back at Nyssa, seeing the resolve in her eyes. "Oh, you're serious. What I got planned for your father isn't going to be pretty and will likely ruin him. You all right with that?"

Nyssa crossed her arms before speaking in a cold voice. "He ruined himself a long time ago."

Fury then offers her hand a tells her, "Well, then, let's get started. Partner." Nyssa then takes her hand and shakes it.

"Are your parents OK with this? I know they're big on the 'don't kill' thing."

Fury sighed before speaking. "They don't know I plan to kill the Light. I only recently made peace with them... And my sister. I'm still trying to talk Donna into sharing Conner since they won't break up." Nyssa raised an eyebrow at that.

"And Naruto is OK with that?"

"No, but if dad says anything it would make him look like a hypocrite. What with having multiple women, two of whom are sisters." Fury said with a smirk as they walked to a table.

Now.

Mount Justice; December 14, 18:19 EST.

Kage pulled his hood down as he walked through the Grotto and up to the memorial holograms. He first saw two; one for Tula in her costume, and one for Jason in his. "Both died too young." He thought remembering Jason dying shortly after the City incident at the hands of the Joker. And Tula giving her life back in February to save the World by defeating Tiamat.

An alien that was going to end all conflict by destroying Earth. (1.) He walked past them and up to the previous Blue Beetle, Ted Kord.

His pants and shirt are light blue, with darker blue trunks. The top section of his shirt is adorned with a dark blue cutout that resembled bug's legs. He has dark blue gloves and boots, and a belt with a golden buckle. He also has a dark blue cowl with yellow goggles.

He looked down, remembering Sportsmaster and Deathstroke attacking him back in July before looking to the left. He saw four holograms with 'DOOM PATROL' on their stands.

The first is a man in a hover wheelchair in a brown suit with short brown hair and a beard.

Beside him is a man wrapped up in a red body suit with white coming down over his shoulders and formed a 'V-shaped down to his waist.

Beside him is what looks like a robot with copper metal wearing black trunks.

The last is a woman is long black hair with a purple hair band. She's wearing a dress version of the body suit with purple gloves and boots.

"Chief, Negative Man, Robotman, and Elasti-Girl," Naruto said crossing his arms as he stared at the group.

(Flashback.)

Just Outside Gotham May 27, 2014, 20:45 EDT.

Kage, in his new costume, and Artemis dropped down from a camouflaged Bio-Ship outside a large two-story house. Naruto looked to see that her hair's been cut to her upper back rather than her waist before Artemis spoke. "Are you sure Brain and Mallah are coming here?" Naruto nodded before he grabbed her and jumped up to the roof.

"Yeah. I saw traffic camera's of them coming to the area." Naruto walked to a vent and pulled the cover open. "Ladies first." Artemis smiled and trailed a finger across his jawline.

"Such a gentleman." She crawled in and Naruto followed before bringing the cover back up.

'Not really, I just want to enjoy the view.' He thought as he stared at her ass as they crawled inside.

They dropped down a hall and saw Mallah and Brain walking to a downed Chief in his hover-wheelchair. "What's wrong, Caulder? Lost your lust for battle?" Brain asked before Naruto spoke up.

"This ends now, Brain!"

Mallah looked back behind him before bringing Brain in front of him. "Kage!"

Naruto jumped over as Mallah did the same and tackled Naruto to a book cabinet. Artemis shot an arrow that shot a rope on both sides of Naruto's head and he pulled the cabinet down before flashing beside Artemis. Chief's chair shot up and he shot Brain with a laser. Brian created a shield that blocked the attack before Chief hit a button on his chair.

The chair grew to a larger one and several laser guns came out and joined together before shooting a large laser beam that sent Brain flying across the room. The chair reverted to normal before the Brain spoke up. "It is too late for you, Caulder. Your beloved Patrol... is doomed!"

Naruto walked over just as the Brain shut down before looking to Chief. "That's not a threat we can take lightly, Niles. The others need to be warned."

Chief nodded before speaking. "Yes. But we've got to find them first."

California May 27, 6:15 PDT.

Kage dropped out of the Bio-Ship as he saw three large mutants surround an overweight Elasta-Girl in a pink bathrobe on her large patio.

Each man is tall and muscular. One only has a large eye on his face.

The other has eyes on his hands.

And the last has no head but a face over his chest.

Naruto dropped kicked the man with one eye into a stone column just as another snuck up on him. "Kage!" Artemis yelled shooting a shock arrow at the man. Naruto turned around and created a Rasengan (Spiraling Sphere) and hit the man in the stomach.

"A little help would be appreciated, Elasti-Girl!" Chief said keeping one man at bay.

"I'm retired. After what happened in Paris... I'm done."

Naruto, Artemis, and Chief attacked the man before Naruto jumped away to push Elasti-Girl out of the way of an attack. "Snap out of it, Rita! You're a hero! Not some overfed self-indulging bitch. The people here need your help! Pull yourself together!"

Naruto ran back to fight as Elasti-Girl suddenly lost her weight and grew to twenty feet tall, revealing that she was wearing her costume. Elasti-Girl easily beat the three men before the others looked at her. "Seems pointless to fight our destiny. Welcome back, Rita."

"It may be my destiny. But that doesn't mean I have to like it." Elasti-Girl said reverting to her small form. They walked to the Bio-Ship as Artemis pouted.

"What's wrong?" Naruto asked stopping by her.

"It's not fair. I work hard for my figure and she can get hers at the snap of a finger."

Naruto rolled his eyes before wrapping an arm around her and kissed the top of her head.

California; A Few Miles Outside Los Angeles; Carnival May 27, 06:30 PDT.

"Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man? What the hell kind of codename is that?"

Naruto asked seeing a large man with white hair in a short-sleeved singlet with a light blue belt. He also has snakes in place of his arms and the left side of his body is pink-scaled with a claw foot.

Chief attacked him with his guns just as what looked like a shadow fly into Negative Man's prone body and woke up. Elasti-Girl ran towards Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man only for him to change his right arm into tentacles and wrap them around her as he created diamonds around his chest and stomach.

His left arm turned into a plant and blasted Chief with sleeping gas just as the Bio-Ship flew to them. Both Kage and Artemis dropped down and kicked Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man in the face before dodging an attack from his hand that changed into a shark before Elasti-Girl hit him with a Mack truck. The crowd cheered as Negative Man shook his head.

"And for me, they throw tomatoes." Naruto looked at him and crossed his arms.

"The Doom Patrol is being targeted. We need your help, Larry." Negative Man shrugged at that.

"Hey, a few months in this dump; I'm more than welcome to that."

Gotham Bay May 27, 21:15 EDT.

The Doom Patrol and Naruto and Artemis dropped down on a dock and saw Robotman standing in front of another robotic man.

He's taller and has bolts out of his head. As well as a sword and gun for hands.

"Hands off the tin man." Negative Man's Astral form said before floating down. "He may be an obnoxious anti-social jerk..." He went back into his body and finished his sentence. "But he's our obnoxious anti-social jerk." The Patrol attacked the Robot as Artemis and Naruto stayed out of the fight.

He created a Genjutsu (Illusion Technique.) to make it seem like they got hit as the robot attacked with lasers before the Patrol easily beat him, having him sink into the water. "Where's Kage and Artemis?" Elasti-Girl asked as Naruto and Artemis shimmered back into sight.

"Right here. I figured seeing his friends in danger would snap Robotman out of his funk." Naruto said before Robotman walked over.

"OK, so I wasn't just going to stand by. But I meant what I said; I'm finished." Suddenly, a light shone on them from the ocean. "Indeed you are finished."

They looked to see an army on a large ship aiming at them with rifles. "General Zahl!" The Doom Patrol yelled, seeing one man leaning on the railing.

He's wearing a black uniform under a black raincoat monocle over his right eye and a general's hat.

His army shot sleeping gas at them knocking out Naruto, Artemis, and the Doom Patrol.

Codsville May 28, 7:15 EST.

Naruto groaned awake as he saw he was hanging upside down and saw the Doom Patrol in front of them. Elasti-Girl was in a net negating her growing powers. Robotman was magnetized to the floor, Chief was without his chair. And Negative Man was being sprayed with gas to keep him in his body.

He felt a body move behind him and smiled. 'I'd know that lithe body anywhere.' He thought before seeing the Arsenal hold his and Artemis's quivers and bows.

"The Doom Patrol was finished! Why-!"

Chief was interrupted by Zahl who was on a floating platform surrounded by floating cameras.

"Why bring them back together? Simple. So I can reveal to the world the real Doom Patrol. As they really are. Frauds and cowards." Chief glared at Zahl from his spot.

"No, Zahl... They're heroes."

Zahl scoffed at that. "Ah, yes. You find pleasure in playing the heroes. Feeding off the admiration of the masses. But you can't cover up what happened in Paris... Why not tell Kage and Artemis what really happened?"

Chief sighed before looking down and started explaining. "It was several years ago. Zahl was on the verge of his greatest victory. Half of France on its knees. Until my Doom Patrol arrived. Then Zahl took things to another level; took a young woman hostage and said he would kill her if we didn't trade places with her."

"What could we do? If we complied, Zahl would be free. Thousands, if not millions of lives would be lost. In the end, France was saved. But the fate of that hostage haunted us. Ate away at the Team until we began to argue. More so than usual. That terrible tragedy destroyed the Doom Patrol. And so we went our separate ways." Chief finished before Zahl pressed a button on a remote he pulled from his coat.

A platform brought the Doom Patrol up and floated to a nearby island. "A touching tale. But now... I will show the world that the great Doom Patrol values themselves above the adoring masses that they claim to protect."

"That entire island has been seeded with powerful explosives," Zahl explained before turning to face Naruto and Artemis and brought out a plunger. "A simple push of this plunger and it will be consumed, extinguishing the Doom Patrol forever." Naruto raised an eyebrow at that.

"That's your grand vision?" He asked as Zahl brought his hands behind his back.

"Not quite; you see there is another island several miles west from here that's rigged as well. 14 worthless gnats. And I leave it to you and your comrades, Dr. Caulder to decide their fate; say the word and I destroy them. Or let them live and... Well, you get the point. To make things interesting; your every world will be broadcasted to the entire world."

He looked back to Naruto only to see he and Artemis were gone. "What?! How?!" He asked before hearing Naruto from behind.

"Well, if Houdini could do it. Then a badass ninja like me definitely can."

Naruto and Artemis fought off the Army and the Arsenal as Brain, Mallah, the Mutant Masters, and Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man.

As they fought, the Doom Patrol started to explain that they'll sacrifice themselves just as Naruto grabbed his bow and shot several explosive arrows at the group, having them fall to the bottom of the ship. Naruto jumped over and kicked Zahl to the deck and destroyed the detonator before he could press the button.

"It's over, Zahl," Zahl smirked before pushing a button on his hat.

"NO!" Naruto shouted.

BOOM!

The island holding the Doom Patrol exploded before they heard the world chant "We're all the Doom Patrol" as Zahl got up, walked up to the monitor, and fell to his knees in utter defeat.

Four Heroes May 28, 20:38 EST.

Naruto stood on a rock that was left of the island the Doom Patrol was on with a breeze blowing after arresting Zahl and the others. The island of Codsville renamed its town Four Heroes in honor of the Doom Patrol. Naruto dropped a bouquet in the water before jumping up to the Bio-Ship. "Rest well, Heroes... Rest well."

(Flashback End.)

Mount Justice December 14, 19:02 EST.

As soon as Naruto was done reminiscing, Superman and Batman entered the Grotto. "Guys. Why are the memorials down here?" Naruto asked turning back to look at them.

"It's better that the public not know about them. They might dig too deep into what happened to them and find out who they really were and then learn-" Batman was interrupted by Naruto.

"What? Superheroes can die? The entire world saw the Doom Patrol die. Don't give me that bullshit excuse." He tells them while walking past them. He turns back to them and continues, "Countries around the world have memorials established to honor their fallen. How can we do any less for our own? Makes me feel like a certain complex might start to develop."

Naruto exits the grotto, leaving both Batman and Superman to look back at the memorials in contemplation.

Gotham; Naruto's Penthouse December 20, 22:55 EST.

Naruto was lying on his bed before hearing the door open. Looking over he saw Zatanna in her costume walking in. "Late night?" She huffed as she glared at him.

"It wouldn't have been, but someone decided on skipping his duties on the Watchtower." She crossed her arms under her bust, pushing them up.

"In my defense, I was up there for like a week with no breaks." She rolled her eyes as he walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her waist. He rests his forehead against hers as he looked into her eyes. "Tell you what. How about I make it up to you, my magician?"

She smiled before pushing him onto the bed. "Evomer ym sehtolc (Remove my clothes)." Her costume disappeared leaving her in her black bra, panties, garter belt, and stockings.

Naruto smiled before seeing that her seal took up her entire left shoulder and looked like a tribal tattoo. Zatanna then crawled on top of him before kissing him deeply.

Gotham; Naruto's Penthouse December 22, 9:24 EST.

Artemis was making breakfast before hearing a knock on the door. "Coming!" She walked to the door and opened it. "Hello... Oh, it's you." She said, seeing Megan wearing jeans and a pink sweater.

"Artemis... I came to talk to you and the others without Naruto."

Artemis glared for a moment before sighing. "OK, fine, but only in the spirit of Christmas."
