The sun had just risen, and the number of people buying vegetables on the streets of the Eastern Market gradually increased. The vegetable vendors were also energetically shouting out, their faces brimming with smiles as they drummed up business.

In the midst of winter, there weren't many varieties available for sale. Aside from radishes and Chinese cabbage, the only other options were tofu and pickled vegetables. There were quite a few vendors selling chicken, duck, and pork, along with some selling dried mushrooms and other fungi.

Most residents of the Eastern Market were fairly well-off, and on regular days when fresh vegetables were scarce, many people lacked enthusiasm for shopping yet felt obliged to buy.
