So just as the coffee finished dripping in his mug, Nicolai sent a message to Ari which would both annoy and make it impossible for her to ignore him. 

[So, I was thinking —did you take a fall this morning? With all the trouble, you had with adjusting my length and all.]

It took her three minutes to read the message and just as Nicolai wondered if she was going to ignore it, but — then again, if his Pallas didn't surprise him, she wouldn't be his Pallas, right?

Two seconds later, she responded to him.

[Careful, Mister de Luca. Your narcissism is showing.]

She was so freaking adorable. She was stuck up, but she was still cute. Nicolai could imagine her glaring at the message as if hoping to put him in his place by going all prim and proper.
