She felt her face burn with a deeper shade of red as she looked at the unmistakable mark on Huo Mingyue's ear, the evidence of her nocturnal mischief. She felt a knot in her throat, making it hard for her to speak. She racked her brain for a reasonable excuse, but nothing came to her. She knew she had no choice but to face the truth. She let out a resigned sigh, her shoulders drooping in surrender.

"I… I don't know," she confessed softly, her voice so low that he could barely hear her. "Maybe… maybe I did nibble on your ear." She bit her lower lip, feeling a surge of shame course through her veins. "But it was just a dream… I think." She lowered her eyes, unable to meet his mocking stare. She wished she could disappear from his sight, or better yet, erase the whole night from her memory.
