A jade without flaw blinds the eye

There was a sharp intake of breath in the suddenly quiet room and Ravi rolled his eyes.

Did Lisa have to overreact all the damn time? Yes, the tall man behind the Chief was handsome, Ravi had seen him already, handsome features with jaws that could probably cut through glass; different from the exquisite, pretty, delicate compliment he normally got. Handsome but Handsome people were not scare.

"If he does a video with me, I swear, I would go viral." She muttered under her breath.

Of course. Ulterior motives, everyone has one.

He looked at the man who looked equally as shocked to see him.

"You!" The man explained, his blue eyes looking almost as comical as the cartoons of heroes that are sold on the street.

Yes, him. Enemies do meet on a narrow path.

"Captain Sinclair, do you know Officer West?" The gruff voice of the Chief sounded in the room and Ravi's inner monologue instantly paused.

Fuck! The Chief of Davenport Bureau was lazy, unproductive but what he cared about the most in the world was his reputation. If he heard that an officer under his command was ignoring old, helpless women on the street and painting the Bureau in a bad light, there would be hell to pay.

He would not fight him of course but he could transfer him. His home, his cushy home with so many rooms, his buried jars of wine, his crops that were one month shy of harvesting, his workshop, he could not lose this place, he couldn't be transferred. His eyes shot to the man, Sinclair, Captain Sinclair and he wondered what to do at this moment. Eradicate the threat, he could do it, a snap of his fingers, and this man would literally combust, his atoms disintegrating in mere seconds.

But he couldn't do it. He has been a Sentinel for more than five hundred years. He had killed thousands of people, and his hands were red, stained but he had never shed an innocent blood, at least not consciously, not intentionally. He looked at the man, Golden hair, bright and clear blue eyes without a hint of darkness, like the ocean on a warm summer day, all that was remaining was a halo on his head. There was no doubt he was innocent.

You are forbidden to kill innocents. He was millions of light years away from the Sentinel Realm and yet their rules seemed to be etched on his body, written into his bones. He probably couldn't do it. So what could he do?

"Ah, No! He just looks familiar." After saying it, he smiled widely at Ravi as if he wanted him to acknowledge him.

Ravi looked away.

The Chief looked at the two of them and just smacked his belly, "Well, I am sure they had all types in the Capital."

The Capital, the two words made even the trees outside zero on the tall man. To the small town of Davenport, the Capital was a mighty tree that they could not reach and since they could not reach it, the man from the Capital was a holy branch they needed to shake. It was not just the members of the Patrol, it just made sense while the Chief was showing the man off the same way that a servant showed the Palace to a visiting noble.

Why would someone from the Capital come to Davenport to be a Captain in the Bureau? It made no sense but he did not care. It was none of his business, six more hours and he would go home to his jar of wine.

"Patrol Team 1, this is…"

The man raised his hand to stop the Chief from introducing him and walked forward, he smiled, light like a breeze, and nodded at them, "My name is Arlen Sinclair. Rank, Captain. I am 29 years old. This is my first time leading a team so I would leave myself in your hands. Please treat me well."

"Ah! What are you saying? It is us that would have to ask the Captain to treat us well. I am the Sergeant of this team. There are three teams in the Patrol Division, we are Team 1, a five-person team. Our shift starts by 8 a.m. and ends by 4 p.m." The moment Captain Sinclair heard the word shift, his gaze shifted to focus on Ravi who just looked ahead like he could not feel the burning gaze.

Tom gave an inquiring look to Ravi but he continued with the introduction, "My name is Tom Smith. I am an ordinary human but I have lived in Davenport since I was born so feel free to ask anything."

"You lived here all your life. That is great. I have loads of questions. I have not found a place to stay or the best place to have breakfast. I got lost looking for where to buy good meat buns." His gaze moved to Ravi again.

Why did he keep looking at him?

He was probably a nepo baby. No, definitely a nepo baby. A good police officer should be able to observe someone without being completely blatant about it. He should get a sign that says, I have met him before and hang it around his neck. That would make more sense.

"You should have gone to Madame Wanko's store. Do not worry, Captain. You are in good hands. I am Draco Brown. A two-star Mutant. Ability, Super speed. If you need anything, I can go and be back in a minute."

"Wow! That is pretty good. Super speed. I have always wanted that."

The man was friendly, sincerely friendly, and people gravitated towards him. Soon, his entire team was surrounding the man, leaving him at the corner of the office.

Ravi clenched his hand and took a breath.

"You, officer, what is your name?"

Ravi looked at him, the gray in his hazel eyes was extremely pronounced at this moment, "Ravi, Ravi West."

Sometimes, you meet someone and you just know, you are not going to get along with this person. That was the feeling Ravi West got when he met Arlen Sinclair that Friday Morning.
