This Shop is Shit

I felt like a deer caught in headlights as I stood frozen in the store.

"Lilibeth," my husband hissed, or was he my ex-husband now? I had no idea if Alexander had finished arranging the divorce, he never updated me on it.

Suddenly the ring on my finger weighed heavily, I looked down and realized how attention-grabbing it was.

Thinking two steps ahead, I slipped it off of my finger and into my pocket, making sure that it was secure.

I might not be looking forward to the marriage attached to it, but the ring was priceless.

Next to Jason, Janet walked in, her black stiletto heels clicked on the floor, making me want to flinch with every sound. She glared at me at first, then her gaze moved from me to the bags the attendant was holding.

"Really, Lilibeth?" she asked, as they stopped in front of me. "You are still married to my brother and you're already moving on to another man?"

"Who said I'm moving on to another man?" She wasn't exactly wrong, but she didn't need to know that. It's not like I was in love with Alexander.

"Because there is no way in hell that you could afford all that on your own," she scoffed.

Jason's hand slid down from her waist as she marched over to me until we were almost a breath away.

Wait, Jason's hand was—

My thoughts were interrupted when Janet's shrill voice filled the room, making my ears hurt.

"You shouldn't be selling to her," Janet said as she suddenly swiped the bags, making them spill all over the floor.

"Janet," I heard Jason groan.

I knew exactly how rich the Youngs were, and they weren't rich enough to pay for the damage Janet probably just caused.

"She can't pay for that," Janet was pointing at the pile of bags on the floor.

The sales attendant looked at me, her eyes pleading. It was as if she was asking me to say that what Janet said was wrong.

"And you can?" I asked, glaring at her. "Will you make the attendant pay for the damage you've caused?"

Janet glared at me, she knew I was right.

"What is going on here?" the manager asked as she arrived.

"You shouldn't sell to her," Janet said as she placed the tip of her pointer finger on my chest. "She can't afford to pay for this."

I had enough of Janet's attitude, I gently pushed her hand to the side and rolled my eyes.

Despite knowing that the manager could easily vouch for me based on who I had entered the shop with, I needed to stand up for myself.

I wasn't about to use Alexander's card to show off either. It would only justify Janet's first accusation of me moving on to another man.

Janet Young was nothing compared to me.

"The entire time I lived with the Youngs I worked, I earned my own money," I declared. "I can pay for my own things."

"After you leeched off my father and stepbrother!" Janet shouted. "Did you find a richer target to latch yourself on to? Is that why you left my stepbrother?"

"I left because you took everything from me," I hissed. "I don't understand how someone who is supposed to be so sick can bounce back so quickly even without me donating my blood."

I always had my doubts.

Although I was certain that at the beginning she was truly sick, but after the last time, I wasn't too sure if she was still sick.

"You social climbing who—" Janet had lifted a hand, ready to slap me across the cheek, something I just couldn't allow.

I caught her hand by the wrist and held it tight, my nails probably digging into her skin, making her yelp in response.

"First of all, I've never needed Jason to provide for me," I said, pushing her away. "Secondly, you have no right to speak to anyone the way you did. If anything you should be thanking me for donating so much of myself to help you survive."

"Bitch!" she spat as she staggered back.

I had pushed her, hard and on purpose, she lost her balance and fell flat on her barely there ass.

"Janet!" Jason screamed in panic. I had forgotten he was there.

He was quick to get to her side and helped her up. His eyes snapped toward that manager, glaring at her.

"Will you really let someone physically abuse your customer? Especially one that clearly can't afford to buy anything in this shop?" Jason demanded.

The manager frowned, but her gaze didn't leave Jason's to look at me.

There was a heavy silence as Jason helped a sobbing Janet up onto her feet.

"She is sick," Jason said.

"Yeah, sick in the head," I heard the attendant assisting me say, making me laugh.

"Heartless bitch," Janet spat at me again.

"Mr….." The manager said as she tried to figure out if she recalled Jason's name.

"Young, Jason Young of the Young family. I work for Harris Group," he boasted.

I wanted to laugh at his face.

If only he knew the man he praised like a god was my fiancée.

"Mr. Young, you are right," the manager said, holding her chin high. "We cannot allow such blatant disrespect."

Jason smiled, his teeth showing as our eyes met.

"Please leave the premises, both you and the banshee you are with." The manager's words came as a shock to everyone including me.

Did she just ask Jason to leave?

"W— W— W— What?" Jason asked, too stunned to speak straight.

"Miss Lili was peacefully shopping when you and your…" The manager looked at Janet as if she was a disgusting piece of trash, making me grin. "Stepsister?"

Oh, that question made me want to laugh so hard, but I resisted the urge. It was a very serious moment, I didn't want to ruin it.

Jason glared at the manager and then at me.

For a moment I thought he would retaliate, but I was shocked when he got up and turned around.

"This shop is shit anyway, everything is outdated," he scoffed as they walked away.

When they were finally out of earshot I turned to the manager and smiled.

"Thank you for doing that, you didn't have to, but thank you," I said smiling.

The manager smiled at me and nodded.

"It's company policy to treat everyone fairly, our boss made sure we all knew that," she told me.

Her eyes then slid to the bags that were once on the floor. The attendant had put them aside, but unfortunately, I knew a lot of women wouldn't want them.

"What a waste," she said with a sigh. "We will get you a new set of these."

"No," I told her, shaking my head. "Those bags are fine, they just fell."

The store attendants looked at me as if I had grown a third head, I couldn't help but laugh at them.

The bags I bought were meant to be used. They would be placed on tables, chairs, and occasionally the floor too. They were meant to be used, not to be showpieces.

"Can you just pack them up for me and charge everything here," I said, handing the manager Alexander's card.

The moment the woman took hold of the card she turned pale.

"Is something wrong?" I asked, worried that Alexander had done something to the card after our encounter earlier.

The manager just stared, making me feel a little bit uneasy under her gaze.

"If you can't accept it, I have another one," I quickly pulled out my own and handed it to her.

I know I planned on milking Alexander for all his worth after what he made me go through, but I wasn't going to let the stuff I shopped for go.

"N— N— N— No Madam Harris, this is fine," I felt my blood boil the moment she called me Madam Harris.

"Don't tell me, what name did he fucking put on that card?" I asked as she showed it to me.

Lilith Durfort-Harris, that asshole!
