Alexis's mother grasped desperately at his hand, struggling to breathe as he tightened his grip. She pounded on his hand until, finally, he released her.
"I'm sorry," he stammered. "I didn't mean to."
As he reached out to comfort her, she recoiled, glaring at him. "You want to kill me?"
"I don't know what came over me. I'm sorry," he pleaded.
Alexis's mother let out a laugh.
"What is funny?" he asked, bewildered.
"Everything," she replied. "We've been married for so many years, and throughout those years, you cheated on me with her."
"The truth is, what I felt for her was love," he confessed. "I know I've hurt you, but she is no longer alive. Can't you just let it go?"
"I would love to let it go, but when the product of your affair is living in my house, how do you expect me to LET IT GO?" she retorted. "You brought her here because you thought I wouldn't know."
