“Up early aren’t ya?”

A surprised greeting escaped him when he caught the sight of a young man walking into the kitchen. On top of his usual expressionless face, the thick pair of glasses was also everything he had seen ever since he was a child.

The stout middle-aged woman in a t-shirt and sweatpants who was cooking a large pot of porridge had to turn around to look as well. This son of hers did not only come home after a long while, but he also woke up unusually early today too.

“I just went to bed early last night. Also, someone made a big commotion super early in the morning. It’d be weirder if I didn’t wake up.”

His reply made the other person crack a small smile before gesturing for him to come closer.

“C’mere.”

“Yeah, mom? What is it?”

As soon as he walked up to his mother, she lightly rapped his forehead, making him jump.
