A New Job

After a few days of Amanda moving to her current place, she started to get used to the neighborhood. Her neighbors were very friendly to her, most of them were old people.

Then Camille turned out to be the head of the area, she was known as Big Mama. Everyone knew her very well. Camille introduced Amanda to them one by one, and they welcomed Amanda very well.

Each of them even brought food for Amanda as a welcome. Amanda was so happy to get it. Even so, there was still a neighbor who didn't seem to like Amanda, she was the neighbor to her right.

A woman who looked about the same age as her, she always looked very sarcastic when Amanda tried to greet her. It was as if she also didn't want to pay attention to Amanda's existence and ignored her. Amanda didn't understand what was wrong, but she didn't think much of it.

She checked the furniture and other incomplete items and bought them. Now she had her own bed. The only thing left was to buy a baby bassinet, but she thought it was too soon to buy one.

Amanda checked her cell phone to see how much money she had left. She still had a lot of money from her hard work as a secret agent, but her expenses would increase after the birth of her child.

She also had to keep sending money to her parents even though they said they didn't need to because they already had their own farm to fulfill their needs.

But Amanda felt she still had to send the money to help them.

"Slowly this money will run out to raise this child. I need to find a new job so I can save up money to support my baby until grows up..." Amanda said.

She checked her phone contacts, she only had four numbers. Kylie, her parents, Camille and James. She had just bought a new cell phone with a new sim card so that William or anyone else could not track her whereabouts through her cell phone. Camille was the only one she had called with that number, the rest she just kept it in case she needed it.

"I guess I'd better start looking for it from now on. But where can I get a job?" Amanda got up from the sofa and picked up her small bag.

She walked out of the house and locked the door, that's when she saw the annoying neighbor just coming out of her house. Thinking of small talk, Amanda greeted the woman.

"Good afternoon, Cecil. Where are you going, are you working?" Amanda asked kindly.

"Heh.." Cecil responded while rolling her eyeballs and then left Amanda.

"She's still like that, I don't know what I did wrong to her."

Ignoring her, Amanda walked towards the shopping area. Maybe someone needed someone to work there.

Unfortunately, no one was in need of workers at the moment. They said they could handle it themselves, so Amanda had no choice but to accept the rejection.

She felt confused about where else to go, she just realized that finding a job was very difficult. Especially if it was new to her. She had gotten one in the past after she asked James to hire her, and she was hired on the spot.

Arriving at a vegetable shop, Amanda met Camille who was having a friendly chat with the shop owner. Amanda entered the shop and asked if they needed someone to help them with their work.

"Very sorry, dear. We already have one," they replied.

"Oh... I see. That's fine, thanks for letting me know."

"Are you looking for a job, Amanda? I know a place that needs one. But you have to be mentally strong if you want to work there," Camille told Amanda.

Mentally strong? What kind of job is that?

Camille accompany her to the place. It turned out to be a café just a few minutes away from where they were earlier. Amanda wondered, why did she have to be mentally strong to work there?

The cafe looked like a normal cafe, not one with criminals or anything like that. The place also looked attractive and well-maintained. It was even opposite the beach.

Camille said Amanda would know after she met the owner. No waitress could stand working with the owner for long.

Curious, Amanda decided to go inside and meet the owner with Camille.

"Welcome! Oh Camille it is," greeted a bald man with a thick mustache. From his tone alone, Amanda could tell he was very stern.

"Hello Jhon, are you busy? It looks like the cafe is quite busy," greeted Camille.

"If you already know, why are you still asking? Of course I'm busy. No one wants to work for me!" he replied in a rather high tone.

Camille smiled and then grabbed both of Amanda's shoulders, saying that there happened to be someone who needed a job. Jhon looked Amanda up and down, as if assessing the woman in front of him. Amanda smiled waiting for a response from Jhon.

"What's your name and where are you from?" asked Jhon.

"Ohh... I'm Amanda Sanchess. I come from a place far, far away. The small town of Deslon in the Southern part of Barkarian," Amanda replied.

It was the town where she was born, and the distance to get there could take 2 days by airplane because it was too far from Quespion City, where she was currently located.

"Barkarian, huh? Okay. Are you able to work here even on holidays when I ask you to come?" This cafe is very busy with tourists every day. I don't want to hire a lazy, spoiled woman!"

"I-I can do it! I'm sure I won't disappoint you!" Amanda replied with confidence.

"How old are you? What did you do before? Do you have any experience in that?"

Amanda gasped when she heard the question. She couldn't possibly say that she had previously worked as a secret agent.

Before Amanda could answer, Camille interrupted her by saying there was no need to go that far. She was sure Amanda could be relied upon in any situation at the café.

"Amanda is a good and strong woman, I'm sure she can work for you, Jhon. Trust me," Camille said.

"Hmn... Okay then, since Camille said it, I'll believe it. Come back here tomorrow morning at eight, the cafe will open at nine. You should come early to tidy up and clean everything," Jhon explained to Amanda.

Hearing that she was hired, Amanda was very happy. She didn't mind that Jhon was very strict and might scold her, which was a common occurrence at her old job.

Jhon said he would only pay Amanda $130 per month. It was a far cry from what she was used to, even if it was only 20%.

"Maybe I'll give you a bonus if the cafe is really busy and you have to come in on your day off,"

"No problem! Thank you for accepting me into this job. I'll do my best!"

Seeing Amanda's enthusiasm for her new job, Camille laughed at her. She said it was the spirit of a young woman.

After chatting a bit about her job, Amanda and Camille left Jhon's cafe and went home together.

"Thank you so much, Camille. Thanks to you I was able to get a job," Amanda said holding Camille's arm.

"Oh you're welcome, sweatheart. I'm sure you really need it for you and your future children. Giving birth to children and raising them costs a lot of money."

"Right... I'm really helped by this, thank you again."

Big Mama smiled and patted Amanda's arm lightly. They arrived at the front of the house and entered their respective houses. Amanda put her bag on the table and lay down on her bed.

Tomorrow is her first day at work. She will have to muster up a lot of stamina as she is sure to use a lot of energy.

"This is the first time I'll be working as a waiter. I've disguised myself as a waiter in the past, this time I should be able to do well with the real thing."
