A Loose End

Tigra woke up with a bad feeling, as if something that she wouldn't like was going to happen soon. It felt like the air was slightly heavier than it should be, like the difference between a thick blanket and a weighted blanket.

She groaned and leaned forward, sitting up in the bed that she requested from the inn yesterday.

Her mouth opened in a yawn before getting out of the bed.

She focused lightly before she saw the clone in the corner and the dark shadows disappeared.

Tigra soon after created a clone and looked at it.

It didn't look any different compared to how the clones have looked in the past.

The clone held up their left hand before it became surrounded in lava that, instead of dropping, it simply circled around her arm like a gauntlet. To further it, the lava became hotter before it turned into a blue color. The clone seemed able to use the [Azure Flames] ability.

They then held up their right hand before it became engulfed in yellow lightning that shot out away from their arm. They moved it around before the lightning near their hand grew more intense before forming into three claws of lightning seemingly coming out in between their fingers.

"So you actually can use fire and electricity. Can you use Raiju?"

The clone looked down at their right arm as lightning traveled all the way up to their shoulder, sparks coming from all over the arm before it seemed to flatten and stick to her arm.

"Seems like it. However, you may want to check if this is affecting you or not."

Tigra looked to the side. 'Raiju.'

[Raiju - With this trait, you can combine yourself completely with your lightning. While using this form, you can move 3x faster than the speed you had when you changed. Water damage is tripled against you but lightning attacks do 100% more damage in this form. Can be used for up to 90 minutes throughout a 24 hour period. Current available: 90 minutes]

"No, I'm not affected. We'll have to test more about what if you were created after I used it. Do you have your own timer or do you share my time from when you were created." She muttered before dismissing the clone before her shadow grew very dark.

She stretched before walking out of the room and leaving the inn.

She made her way to a clearing before creating two waves that circled around her with the soft movements of her hands for the next 30 minutes.

Wave gained 50 [EXP/m] * 2 [2 waves] * 4 [Genius and Hydromaniac] * 30 = 12,000 EXP!

'That's…a bit underwhelming considering the others. Fire increases my HP drastically, Lightning increases my speed high enough to probably be within the top 2% most dangerous people on Etheria, Ice makes it incredibly hard to hurt me, and Shadow makes it hard to detect me should I try to sneak. Yet Water…increases water spells and my underwater speed?'

Without this, your top speed - without tearing your body to pieces due to the friction of water - would be 80 mph.

'Huh? What about the air friction then with how fast I'm moving?'

Water friction is about 12x worse than air, and you can deal with it due to Lightning Armor creating a safety dome around your body the instant you start moving faster than your body should be capable of at that moment in time. Otherwise, normal body parts would tear off at 280 mph, let alone Mach 30. That is the main purpose of Water Armor, to protect you from the extremes of that element.

 'The others?'

Fire does a decent amount of damage per second, so it increases your HP drastically to counteract said damage. Lightning can hit something in less than a millisecond, so your speed would be increased drastically to give the chance to dodge such attacks. One foot of the strongest ice in this Universe can support over 200 tons, so it needs to be strong enough to take force against it. For one to be the best at using the shadows, one must become them, thus you are able to travel through them and blend in.

Creatures who have evolved and lived in the water adjust to the pressure and can move faster than most creatures on land. So you can't let yourself be slowed down in water and use the water around you to your advantage.

 'Alright.'

With the explanation given that each has their own use, it makes sense that some would seem better than others, but that's good enough for her.

So, she focused and brought her magic around her like water and made it flow all around her body, across her hands and back to the body, similar to blood traveling through the body.

She moved her arm to the side and left a streak of water in the air before it soon rejoined with her arm. She moved it quicker and the water stayed in place before quickly moving through the air a second later and rejoined her arm.

"So I could use it as a second attack." She determined.

She threw several punches and kicks to try it out before jumping back and observing.

It was bizarre to see an outline of her moving through the motions she had gone through about 2 or 3 seconds ago be done perfectly.

"Well, since I have learned this armor, time to transfer fire spells into electric spells to have options in the future."

Using her previous knowledge of fire spells, she simply had to substitute them with electrical magic.

It was a bit more difficult to substitute than she thought it would be, but it makes sense when she would look back on it.

Fire was power that needed to be stretched outward and kept the power and heat from the source to the end point.

Electrical magic had the raw power that would keep its power, but it lacked its capability of staying together in a neat place. The lightning wanted to split into arcs that it could find the easiest escape. So, she had to keep an invisible arc of energy going through the weapons to keep the electricity circling around itself in order to not waste magic.

[Lightning Falchion LV 1 (0/300) - You have created a Falchion made of lightning! With this, you will do (DEX * 2.1 + STR * 2.3 + INT * 2.7) * Blade_Bonus * Lightning_Bonus. Damage: 6432. MP: 150 to create. 25/m after.]

...

Tigra let a sigh come out of her mouth as she ducked a Fire Clone's kick. She whipped her hand forward but, instead of colliding with it, she stopped right before it and grabbed their shirt.

She brought her knee up and into its chest and threw it behind her.

Right before a large impact sounded behind her and felt the water from Water Armor slam back into her arms.

She turned around to see a hole in the clone's chest before returning to flames.

"It'll take me a while to get used to fighting with this. Instead of just hitting the target, it works best by either taking them by surprise or holding them in place for the water to follow up with a second hit."

She dismissed the spell and spies she had in her shadow.

Tigra stopped there as she felt it was time to get something from her rations to eat.

Yet her beeping tablet attracted her attention.

She walked over before picking it up and opening up the message…

 From Rogelio.

The soldier has been identified and is being watched. Kyle has been made aware of the threat. Soldier will be leaving Geotan within 10 hours.

Tigra's grip tightened with two realizations.

She never got the location for Lucy, which apparently she's in Geotan. The place that had taken Medic Susan from her and may have resulted in Harold either dying or abandoning the Horde. The first place that she had conquered for the Horde. A place about 800 miles away from Ghu-Lin.

The second is that her time limit to capture Lucy and bring her back for interrogation is much more limited than she had thought.

That, or she had to capture her within that time frame.

'I've got a big training session coming up to master these spells.' She determined before Lightning Armor surrounded her with an orange glow from Haste going around her.

She sent a notice to the soldier in charge of Ghu-Lin that she was leaving now and for Rogelio to stay safe for the next 20 minutes before she began to run.

*Rogelio*

Rogelio looked down at his tablet and read Tigra's message, which only put him more on edge.

Lonnie had been stuck behind in the Fright Zone to undergo some extra training that a few Captains recommended that she should learn before being thrown into the wild with what her rank entailed, since the war is seeming like it will only get worse before it gets better.

So it was just him to have Kyle's back.

Kyle…was nice. He helped remind both him and Lonnie that strength alone won't end this war.

Kyle always had a weak body. While not weak enough that prevented him from becoming a Cadet, he would likely only be able to beat Tigra's academy score at his prime.

His sharpshooting skills though, he is almost in a class of his own now that he found a mentor to give him tips and improve his weapon usability. He could easily hit a target from nearly a mile away. Maybe 1.5 if he overcharged his energy rifle enough that he wouldn't be able to fire until the charging battery was replaced.

He was also a great medic. While he is a long way from possibly doing surgery for the harder injuries, he could likely save 9/10 people who are injured on the field. He's done it plenty of times for Rogelio in the past.

That's the point where Rogelio usually steps in for Kyle. Despite gaining more confidence than he had in the Academy, Kyle still didn't like confronting people.

So, it became his job to make sure Kyle was treated with the respect he deserved. After all, it seemed like he would be joining the ranks of the Specialists as their new Marksman once the current one finished teaching him.

So, Rogelio became the one who would handle close combat for Kyle should Lonnie not be around. He also was the main person who dealt with fixing any broken pieces to keep their Marksman up and running well enough to keep their backs covered.

So it became a problem when Tigra just messages a random statement about not trusting someone with the color of the ocean and how Kyle wouldn't see the threat in time.

It made little sense at first until he spotted Lucy talking to a soldier and realized she may have been talking about scale color. It would also make sense that Kyle wouldn't see the danger coming. Kyle needs to be focused on the enemy that he likely wouldn't notice a traitor in the midst.

So Rogelio would remain near Kyle until Tigra arrived.

Which wouldn't have been for another 17 minutes and Tigra arrived on the outskirts of Geotan.

Tigra came to a stop just outside Geotan and saw the familiar town. Not much looked different compared to over a year since she last saw it. Besides a few new buildings, the Horde's red symbol on a few banners, and a few squadrons of soldiers patrolling along the walls.

She could spot the large hill that she had stood atop on when she had managed to conquer Geotan. How she had been forced to get some rest before writing up her report from Susan.

How glad she had been to see her unofficial second in command of the operation had come back alive, if a little worse for wear. Harold had been the most skilled of that Squadron when it came to combat.

 Then there was Lucy…

She had been injured heavily that she would have died had Tigra not intervened with Heal back then. How she had agreed to wait on making the report with her reasoning being so that she could report more accurate information instead of quick information.

Yet not a month later, Susan was declared KIA and her body was burned. Harold had been declared KIA but hadn't been able to retrieve his body. At the time, she found it confusing since Lucy had said that they had found his body.

But Lucy was all that remained of her second Squadron that she had been a part of that she continued to speak with. The others seemed happy staying where they were at in the military positions and none of them had come to talk with her.

Lucy however seems to be staying close to her as time goes on. On one hand, Lucy could genuinely have been seeing her as a friend and wanting to know her better, having lost Harold, who she'd known since she was put on that Squadron almost 3 years ago now.

On the other, Hordak is saying that her background is said to have been false. That she had been in contact with Lukan.

But something didn't feel right with that.

Lucy came from a Squadron that graduated 2 years before Tigra had, a year before Lukan would have become a Settler. Lucy should have had no reason to have contact with him at all, besides him being a Settler.

'I don't like this.' She thought, walking towards the town before seeing some soldiers spotting her.

A few raised their blasters at her, causing her to stop and cross her arms.

'Good response. There are ways to fake an identity, even ones such as mine.'

"Name, rank, purpose, and superior!" One of them barked out.

"Tigra, Force General, Inspection, S.I.C. Catra and Horde Lord Hordak."

A few seemed to drop their guard before a soldier commanded them to raise their arms once more.

 "Proof of Identity."

Tigra lit up with yellow lightning before appearing in front of the soldier with a boom.

 "Good enough?"

Several soldiers spun their weapons towards her but most seemed to have relaxed once the Captain put up the signal to stand down.

"Very well. What are you doing here, General?"

"I am here to pick up Cadet Kyle, Cadet Rogelio, and Commander Lucy to return to the Fright Zone."

 "What for?"

"I'm afraid that you do not have clearance there, Captain…Nura."

Nura frowned at that but backed down.

"Now, where can I find them? I need to borrow a Skiff, seeing as I'm to be transporting people back."

"Why don't you have your own Skiff?" Nura inquired.

"I had to deal with a situation in Ghu-Lin. I came straight from the Fright Zone and reached it in about 90 minutes."

Nura's red eyebrows raised at that.

 "That's nearly Mach 3, correct?"

"Correct. Where are the soldiers I specified?"

"Cadet Kyle is on duty in the overwatch tower with Cadet Rogelio as his back up. Commander Lucy is in the planning room with other Commanders to determine the resources and manpower that will continue to be needed to keep Geotan under the Horde's control."

Tigra nodded. "Prepare a Skiff for me, would you? I'd appreciate it if I could retrieve them and be on the move as soon as we can."

Nura nodded before ordering someone to do so.

Tigra headed off to the overwatch tower that Nura had pointed at when telling her where to find Kyle.

She passed several civilians and even managed to recognize one or two that looked familiar.

But most seemed able to recognize her, seeing as she took control of their village/town.

Some whispered a few hurtful words, others avoided her glance, and even others simply pointed.

Tigra stayed focused before reaching the tower and gently shooting fire out of her feet through Fire Step and began floating upwards.

She stopped at the top of the tower and came face to face with two of her old Squadron.

"Heya." Tigra greeted, keeping an arm on her hip. "Been a while."

 Rogelio grunted and growled.

 About 4 months now?

"Roughly. Last time we saw each other was probably your simulation to see how your skills were after a year in combat."

"How'd we do? I haven't heard much but Alix decided to take me on as an apprentice. Yet, I haven't seen anyone teach Rogelio or Lonnie." Kyle asked.

"Rogelio, what is your main focus now? Mechanic?" Rogelio grunted. "I'll put in a word that you may be interested in learning from Entrapta. She's the best mechanic we have that's willing to teach but be warned, she is a fast teacher from the small interactions I've had with her in the past."

 Lonnie?

"Well, seeing as she returned to the Fright Zone, she's been joining my Physical class for the last month or two. She'd likely be an actual challenge to me when I graduated, which is pretty big, considering how high my speed was back then."

"Could she have beat you now if she fought you then?" Kyle seemed curious.

"Probably. My fights largely ended in a minute or 2 at most. My Hand to Hand wasn't bad, but it was definitely worse than Lonnie's current." Tigra shrugged.

"But that's not important. You two are returning to the Zone with me along with one other person."

 Lucy?

"Lucy. Keep it quiet, but she's being Suspected. Something about her past wasn't documented correctly and Hordak decided that it was a big enough red flag that I need to get her back to the Zone for questioning."

Is this going to be dangerous? Couldn't you just knock her out and take her back to the Zone?

"Not if she doesn't want to injure Lucy." Kyle stepped in. "Most people will wake in minutes after being knocked out, unless it is done through medical means. Those ways have ways to keep you under for hours. But a physical blow that isn't meant to injure someone? They could be up in, at most, 10 minutes. Any more than that could be signs of moderate brain damage."

"Which would be bad on the chance that Lucy is found to be innocent with it simply being a documentation error." Tigra tacked on. "It's also about looks. It will look bad if a General is seen carrying an unconscious Commander over their shoulder and for them to later be announced either as a spy or a failed operation."

"There's also the fact that it may be easier to have her come along willingly. Which is what you're trying to do, aren't you?"

Tigra nodded. "It's partially why I need both of you for this trip. With more people, it shouldn't seem outlandish that we are there for her, but more in line that a situation has come up and I need a few certain people."

 Alright. When do we leave?

"Now. I just need to go collect Lucy and we can head out."

"Alright. Let me contact the next person who was supposed to take my place after my shift." Kyle told.

Tigra cut off Fire Step and began to fall feet first.

She seemed nonchalant until the flames started up again and stopped her from smashing into the ground and potentially rolling an ankle.

She cut it off after stopping her momentum and landed on the ground and walked off.

It took her 5 minutes to find the planning room and entered to find Lucy looking over some kind of map.

"If someone's not dead or you aren't a Captain, I'm afraid that my work for the next 5 hours can't be interrupted." She told, not looking away from the map. "Where did they come from?"

"How about a General?" Tigra asked, making Lucy swing her head around with wide eyes before laughing.

"Tigra! How have you been? I haven't seen you in months."

"Yeah. I've been bouncing from Cadalia, the Northern Reach, and the Zone since the Battle. Whatcha doin? Sounded like you had a conundrum."

"Yeah. I'd like your opinion since you're here."

Tigra walked over and looked down to see a map of Geotan.

"Two weeks ago, some Rebel forces managed to sneak into Geotan and almost take down our Watcher. If it wasn't for Cadet Rogelio, Cadet Kyle may have ended up in the infirmary we have set up here."

She pointed towards the Northern end of the village before sweeping it along the eastern side.

"From what we were able to determine after the sudden attack, they had to have entered through this area. It's the only place with even a slight sign of someone in a hurry coming from. Yet, there's no actual sign of entry."

"What about the ones that escaped? Could they have gone out the way they came?"

Lucy shook her head. "They left the same way I can assume you entered, through one of the gates. They took control of the East gate and held it long enough for some of those who snuck in to escape."

 "Prisoners?"

Lucy hesitated before a grimace showed on her face.

"They seemed disillusioned and maybe desperate. When they were about to be captured, they injected some small syringes into their veins. They eventually succumbed to some form of death. The onsite medics are claiming that they injected some kind of poison into their veins so that it would travel throughout the body quickly."

"What's the problem? Besides the obvious."

"Something's going on with the Rebellion." Lucy started, looking Tigra in the eyes. "These soldiers were willing to throw away their lives should their attack fail. The Rebellion has never been this way before. Sure, some were desperate to get their cities, towns, and villages back, but not this desperate. It's almost like something or someone has them afraid to return back with a failure."

"I'm afraid that the problem will be solved in the future." Tigra spoke after a second to digest that information. "I need you, Rogelio, and Kyle back in the Zone. Lord Hordak has a mission that he wants me for and I'll need the three of you along with me to ensure that it goes smoothly."

"I'd like to, but this is a problem that may only get worse if left alone." Lucy turned back to the map.

"I'm afraid that it wasn't a suggestion." Tigra gained her attention. "Officially, he just wants this done. Unofficially, he's thrown me a mission that requires different perspectives to complete the mission. It involves going to remote places near Salineas-"

"Alright." Lucy sighed. "I can tell that this is a situation that I can't actually say no to without getting in trouble with Lord Hordak, correct?"

 Tigra nodded.

"Afraid so. I'm sorry that I had to drop in suddenly and take you away, but this shouldn't take more than a week to complete. At which point, should it finish with good results, you should be back out here soon enough."

Lucy straightened up before folding the map back up and placing it in a secured safe and locking it. She grabbed her tablet before putting it in her pocket and turning to her.

 "Let's get going."

 __________

Tigra and the three people she brought along with her were heading back to the Zone on a Skiff for the next 2 days, before finding themselves at the Garage.

 __________

Lucy stepped off the Skiff and looked around.

"Where is everybody? Usually there's a few mechanics working on repairs for lightly damaged Skiffs?"

"That is none of your concern," A harsh voice spoke, drawing attention from the others in the room.

The speaker was Lord Hordak with 6 armed guards next to him.

"Lord Hordak?" Lucy sounded confused. "I figured that you would have told us where we're going, but I didn't think you would show up in person."

Hordak looked at Tigra with a raised eyebrow before narrowing his eyes.

"General Tigra, would you care to inform us why Commander Lucy is actually here, for her?"

Lucy looked at her in suspicion and worry at this point.

Tigra clenched her visible hand before frowning lightly, doing her best to keep her emotions contained.

"Force Commander Lucy is being detained for having been in contact with the spy Moonshifter secretly in the last month. Moonshifter has been identified as Lukan Lyle, a Settler that she has been in contact with multiple times within the last 3 months."

 "What?" Lucy muttered in horror.

"This led the agency to look more into her background and documentation that ended up with several inconsistencies. Until the matter is resolved, Commander Lucy is to be detained in a cell. Depending on the seriousness of the matter, she could be facing years in prison to potential execution." She listed off.

 "Tigra, you think-"

 "Soldiers, detain her." Hordak interrupted.

The 6 soldiers made their way over to Lucy, who only looked at Tigra like she was an enemy about to kill her.

"Please, don't fight." Tigra asked her. "If you're not a traitor, it will be solved easily. If you fight back, you may be stuck in prison for that fact alone."

As the 6 were almost to them, Tigra asked the second thing of Lucy that she inwardly pleaded that she would follow.

 "Trust me."

Lucy's wide eyes narrowed and her mouth turned into a frown.

 "I did."

The 6 took her away, leaving Rogelio, Tigra, Kyle, and Hordak alone.

"Job well done, General and Cadets. You will have the next three days off to allow yourself some time to unwind and recuperate." Hordak informed them before turning away.

The three of them watched as he walked away, likely back to his lab or wherever he spends most of his time.

Only after he was gone did Kyle speak.

"Do you…do you think Lucy is actually a traitor?"

Tigra was silent before an idea struck her and grimaced.

"I don't know. But I know a way to find out."

 Oh? How so?

"I need to make a deal."

 "A deal? With who?"

The two moons of Etheria were nearly in alignment behind her. They would likely be doing their annual alignment within the next few days, something about their orbits.

 "With the Devil."

A masked woman watches the moons from inside a cell.
