Nydia and Jennifer were both surprised.

"Did you downplay the danger of it? I just feel something wrong," said Nydia, glancing at Gloria in the rearview mirror.

Jennifer looked at Gloria silently.

Gloria hesitated for a moment before she spoke softly.

"He cared about me as much as he had done before, but I could feel that he was getting more discreet. And his voice was kind of laden with mixed emotions. After making sure I was OK, he said he would leave me alone and then hung up."

Nydia was surprised. "Really? Did he really say that?"

Gloria nodded. "Yeah."

Nydia made a left turn and then said, "Oh no, why do I feel like he's a different person? I can't believe that came out of his mouth. He loves to be with you every day, doesn't he? He has been in love with you for so long after all."
