Chapter 27: Apologies

The following morning, I called Marcia on the drive to work to fill her in on Bill’s will.

“I’m giving it all to Luke, of course,” I stated. “I mean, why would Bill leave me anything? Luke was far more family than I was. It doesn’t seem fair. I feel like he just did it out of guilt. Ugh! I should never have gone to Idaho!”

“But, surely, he left Luke with the lion’s share?” Marcia wondered.

“I hope so. Because none of it is rightfully mine. And there is nothing for me in Idaho anyway. If Luke won’t take it, then I’ll donate it or sell it or something.”

“But, my love. Your father left it to you. Perhaps there is a reason for that? You should at least go and find out, no?” Marcia argued as I pulled into the parking lot.

“Marcia, there is no way in hell that you’re talking me into going back there. It’s been eight weeks and I’m just barely starting to shake that place.”

“Maybe you weren’t meant to “shake it?” she questioned in her motherly way.
