Betrayal

Sebastian shot Eric a sidelong glance, drawling as he shook his head and let out a hefty sigh. "You planning to stop me? Think you can stand in my way? Risk it all for those sorry, low-rank humans? You're playin' a dangerous game, Eric."

As he spoke, Sebastian sauntered toward Eric, his boots thudding on the metallic floor.

"I am nothing like you, murderer."

Eric let out a roar and swung his hand, a deafening screech racing across the vast steel beams in the submarine, forming a barrier against Sebastian.

"Is that the best you got?"

Sebastian curled his lip in mockery, paying no mind to the steel barricade. He pressed on, and with each step, the metal beams contorted as if some colossal force was bending them at his will.

"I am gonna kill you bastard."

Eric bellowed, channeling magnetic forces to bolster his defense, yet Sebastian persisted, pushing him back relentlessly.

"Your resistance is futile! Your strength is as feeble as a mouse's squeak! Can you really stand up to me? Can you lay a finger on me?"

Sebastian sneered, reaching out to grab Eric by the neck, hoisting him into the air.

"You've made a misstep. I don't need to harm you at all!"

Eric, suspended by Sebastian's grip, showed no sign of fear. Instead, a smirk graced his face. "All I need to do is snatch that fancy helmet of yours!"

"Huh?"

Sebastian was caught off guard as a cable snaked behind him, yanking his helmet off in a swift motion, exposing his head.

"Om..."

A torrent of psychic power flooded Sebastian's mind, rendering him under Charles's influence in an instant.

Helpless, Sebastian hung mid-air, petrified by the mental stranglehold.

Eric shot a triumphant look at Sebastian, his tone filled with anger. "Go to hell and answer for your sins!" With a sweeping gesture, a steel pipe shot forth, puncturing Sebastian's skull.

Sebastian, in the grip of psychic domination, couldn't muster the use of "Energy Absorption." Eric swiftly put an end to him with a single decisive blow.

"AAAAAAA…"

Charles clutched his head, unleashing a tortured roar as pain coursed through him.

Charles bore Sebastian's agony as if it were his own.

"This initiative is yours to seize control of Sebastian."

A sly grin played on Alex's lips as he concealed his delight. "You want control, yet you hesitate. Feeling the weight now, aren't you?"

"Eric, don't succumb to the shadows of hatred. Eric..."

Charles sensed an unsettling shift in Eric's actions and moved to intervene, only to discover that Eric's thoughts were now beyond his reach.

Inside the submarine's power compartment, Eric cast aside the lifeless Sebastian, his gaze cold as he surveyed the sea. With a determined expression, he removed his helmet and placed it upon his head.

"Charles, your approach is flawed! The war has commenced! It's a battle between humanity and Mutants! Only by defeating them can Mutants secure a future!"

Eric inhaled deeply, his eyes flickering towards Sebastian.

"Sebastian's notion isn't entirely baseless. Despite being a contemptible executor, his vision of forging a future for Mutants is fundamentally correct!"

Yes, fight for the future of Mutants!

A sense of duty welled within Eric as he lifted his head, exited the submarine, and joined the assembly of onlookers.

"Sebastian is no more!"

Eric stared vacantly at the crowd, extending his hand towards the sea, pointing to two distant fleets. "But our peril is far from over! Humans—those treacherous beings—have turned against us. They're launching an assault!"

"Humans are at war with us! Whose side are you on?"

Eric surveyed the gathering, raised his arm, and posed the question with a chilling tone. "Will you fight for the ruthless humans planning our slaughter, or will you stand with me in the battle for our survival and future?"

"Humans attacking us?"

The revelation stunned everyone.

"This can't be!"

Grete exclaimed in disbelief.

"No! It's not possible!"

Charles echoed the sentiment.

"I can sense their artillery is aimed at us already."

Eric scoffed, declaring, "Charles, are you still in denial? Can't you feel it? They've declared war on us!"

"Boom!"

From the distant sea, the naval guns thundered!

Artillery erupted into the sky as both fleets simultaneously launched their assault.

Shells and missiles, densely packed and overwhelming, initiated a carpet bombing precisely where Alex and the others were situated.
