Chapter 12

"I thought you were better than all of the Hufflepuffs. That's why I asked your name. I'm sure that you will become a great quidditch player. Hell, I even believe that you will be the captain of your team in the future." Alex said as he smiled at him.

Zacharias nodded slowly as a smile bloomed on his face. He looked proud as he glided closer to Alex.

"You could be right but how did you come to the conclusion?"

"There are only two people who are flying extremely high and that's us. You think I can't recognise someone as talented as me?"

"You make a lot of sense." Said Zacharias as he nodded, the slight narcissism from Alex flying over his head.

Alex nodded, but there were different thoughts running in his head and he had already forgotten what he had made up to soothe the kid beside him.

For some reason, he felt something hit him and the next moment he was off his broom, heading straight to the ground. He looked up and saw Susan Bones hanging off of her broom while his simply glided towards the ground.

'Ah… to think that I would die so soon… what a bummer. If only I learnt some life-saving spells instead of playing with sticks.'

He expected it to end fast, without him suffering too much but he felt an excruciating pain in his arm.

He was dangling in the air along with two other students who were holding his wrist tightly.

***********

Hannah Abbot flew around at a casual speed and that was the maximum speed that the broom could offer. As she saw people struggle to even take off on their brooms, she felt better about herself and forgot about the guy who seemed to relish seeing her mocked by others.

It didn't take too long for her to flinch again as her heart leaped. Someone had called out to her, very loudly. She turned to look at the boy who was quite good looking, but the way he looked at her was as if he was about to die of a heart attack.

"Come with me. He fell off his broom. FAST!!"

Hannah followed him for only about ten meters before looking up to see a figure getting closer. The boy looked like he had given up on life as his body seemed to be limp and he had his eyes closed.

Before she could process any of that, she heard the boy beside her talk again just as fast as before.

"Catch him and don't let go. Legs hands or even his torso. Doesn't matter what you can get a hold on, just don't let go. Concentrate, he is coming."

Hannah stretched her arm out and prepared to catch the suicidal boy. He was fast but her reflexes were good as she caught his arm at a spot above his elbow, only for her hand to slide off due to his speed. She instinctively increased her grip and luckily, she held on to his wrist.

She felt herself being jerked down from her broom at an unbelievable force and was about to let go when she heard an agonising scream.

"AAAAARGHH YOU ASSHOLE!"

It was the handsome boy from before. Hearing him scream at her made her reflexively hold on to the falling kid's wrist tighter.

Three seconds. That was all it took for them to stop his fall, although at the expense of one of their arms. Hannah felt extremely good at the thought of saving someone's life.

She hugged her broom and looked at the boy who she had tagged along with and saw him dangling off his broom with only one hand. Alas, just two seconds later his hand slipped.

Hannah couldn't support both their weights on her own but she didn't let go and fell off her broom to the ground along with the two boys.

"We won't die if we fall off from this height. So just chill."

She heard a very familiar voice that she had come to hate for childish reasons. She regretted her life decisions as she accelerated downwards. The words that Alex told, had simply gone over her head.

'To think that the last thing I would hear before I die… to be this guy's voice… I don't want to die like this.'

"MADARCHOD ALEX!!"

She felt better when she heard the other boy's voice and the next second, felt her legs go numb and directly lost consciousness.

Alex looked at the two who had saved his life and was grateful but there were more important things to do. He saw Madam Hooch running over to them as she shouted at the other students.

"Get that girl down and wait for me here while I take these three to the hospital ward."

Alex felt himself levitate and closed his eyes calmly as he knew that he was in the care of one of the staffs.

The rest and peace didn't last long as intense pain assaulted his lower body. He opened his eyes and looked down as he clenched his jaws.

The two legs that he used for more than a year looked unfamiliar as bone splinters poked out from his skin.

He didn't get too much time to think as a small bottle was shoved into his mouth. From the corner of his eyes, he saw movements and tried to go for his wand that was in his robes but, lost consciousness midway.

Aman and Hannah looked at him and while one was worried, the other was regretful. Both of them hadn't sustained any serious injuries but they would still be bedridden for at least two days according to Madam Pomfrey.

Aman looked at his only friend with worry as blood slowly oozed out of the holes pierced by his own bones. Fortunately, they had Poppy who managed to somehow keep him alive even though a lot of blood was lost.

"Which one of you two is his friend?" Asked Madam Pomfrey sternly, prompting Aman to turn towards her.
