Chapter 1Chapter 1: The Unseen Menace

The sun bathed the city in a warm glow, casting its light upon bustling streets filled with joyous laughter. Children played with abandon, their innocent giggles echoing through the air. Among them, a group of knights guards strolled leisurely, taking in the sights and sounds of their beloved city. In this cheerful atmosphere, a lone figure detached himself from the group, his eyes fixed on a tantalizing ice cream cart nearby.

Meanwhile, in a modest house nestled amidst the vibrant cityscape, a young mother named Elizabeth cradled her newborn son in her arms. The room was filled with a sense of serenity and love as the bond between mother and child bloomed. The peace, however, was soon interrupted by a resounding knock on the front door.

Startled, Elizabeth carefully laid the baby in his crib and hurried to answer the door. It was the baby's father, his face etched with concern and urgency. He entered the house, his footsteps heavy with unease. Elizabeth sensed his troubled state and gently placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, urging him to share his burden.

His voice trembled as he revealed the horrifying news. Reports had surfaced of neighboring towns falling victim to multiple assailants, their inhabitants mercilessly massacred. Fear gripped the region as chaos descended upon the innocent. The couple realized that their city was not immune to this growing threat.

A sudden commotion outside shattered their conversation, filling the air with screams of terror. The couple rushed to the window, their eyes widening in disbelief. A horrific sight met their gaze—an onslaught of monsters, unlike anything they had ever seen before. The creatures, remnants of battles fought, possessed formidable physiques adorned with tattered armor. In stark contrast, others blended effortlessly with the shadows, armed with sleek bows and crossbows. Some towering creatures, the epitome of destruction, laid waste to the city with their massive ballistae and cannons.

Realizing the imminent danger, Elizabeth and her partner resolved to escape the crumbling city. However, as they made their desperate attempt to flee, two of the fearsome creatures blocked their path. The baby's father, driven by a parent's instinct to protect his family, valiantly engaged them in combat. Yet, outnumbered and outmatched, he succumbed to their relentless onslaught.

With tears streaming down her face, Elizabeth made a heart-wrenching decision. She hurriedly hid the newborn child in a closet, tenderly whispering her farewell and promising to return for him. Taking a deep breath, she faced the approaching creatures head-on, her determination shielding her from overwhelming grief.

The scene faded as chaos enveloped the city, leaving behind a trail of devastation and despair. The fate of the newborn, now left alone in the darkness of the closet, hung precariously in the balance, as the world outside crumbled under the merciless assault of the unknown menace.

A day had passed, and the city lay in ruins—a haunting reminder of the devastation that had unfolded. Amidst the debris, a mysterious figure emerged, drawing awe and wonder from all who beheld them. Two magnificent horns, resplendent in their grandeur, curled proudly from the noble brow, casting elongated shadows upon their pale visage. Eyes as fiery as the setting sun, burning with the secrets of ages untold, glowed like orbs of ancient wisdom and untamed power.

His countenance bore the marks of countless journeys and battles fought in realms unseen, etched upon weathered features that spoke of wisdom acquired through eons of existence. A cascade of pure white, flowing like ethereal snowfall, cascaded down their chest, his long and majestic beard revealing the passage of time and the depths of their knowledge.

Adorned in a cloak of midnight black, tattered and worn, it billowed around them, whispering secrets only the winds dared to carry. Each rip and tear in the fabric told stories of battles fought against the darkness that threatened to consume the world. In his presence, one could feel the weight of the ages, the echoes of forgotten lore resonating with every step, as if the very fabric of reality bowed in reverence to their existence.

As the enigmatic figure scurried amidst the remnants of the city, a heavy sigh escaped his lips, mingling with the melancholic winds. Suddenly, amidst the desolation, he heard a faint cries of a baby. His ears perked up, and a glimmer of hope ignited within his ancient heart. With a sense of urgency, he followed the sound, maneuvering through the rubble until he discovered a newborn baby nestled in the remains of a ruined house.

The figure approached the baby, his voice filled with a mixture of concern and curiosity. "There, there, it's alright now, little one."

The baby, eyes wide and innocent, gazed up at the enigmatic figure with a mixture of vulnerability and trust. A warm smile touched the figure's lips, a glimmer of compassion shining in his ageless eyes. "Fear not, young one. From this day forward, I shall be your guardian."

GlaringError here! As I have already mentioned in my author review I am restating it here since I am getting tons of comments about it, that I am more of a reader myself than a writer, I made this novel in an attempt to capture my fantasy world residing in my mind into words.. Writing is new for me.. The premise of my novel is inspired by many great works that I have loved over the years. And some elements I have in my novel that are slightly similar to them but it's just the skeleton of it, the real meat of the plot is entirely my own cooking. Some of the influence that is more noticeable is from The Runesmith (By Kuropon), The King's Avatar (By Butterfly Blue) and Shadow Slave (By Guiltythree). I have immense respect for these legends and I can only hope to follow in their footsteps. To all those who comment just by judging the name, at least give it a chance before letting your opinions known. Thank you.
