Nesting Zone!

Jason and the gang were back on the move with their latest addition, Bella.

Rachel was the designated leader for now and that was only because Jason was lost, he didn't know what to do or where to go so it was best to follow Rachel because of the way she carried herself.

"That is strange…" Rachel muttered under her breath as they got closer to their destination, the place was a lot emptier than she thought it would be despite the multiple cars tightly parked around. This made it impossible for cars to get through and people had to squeeze through it.

Jason gestured for them to stay in place before climbing the hood of the car to scout the area for potential threats but in the far distance, he saw the military barricade that had been set up.

Jason was overcome with a sigh of relief, he was glad that they were getting somewhere.

"I see it! There is an outpost of some sort!" Jason exclaimed before looking at Rachel, everything she had said so far was true and this made Jason happy.

"Why is there nobody here?" Bella asked the all-important question.

"My thoughts exactly," Rachel responded with a stern look on her face.

Lillian was quiet, she looked exhausted and one couldn't blame her.

They have been walking for quite some time now and Jason noticed this, it was to be expected because she had a much smaller body so what she could do was severely limited.

Jason rummaged through the bag and handed a bottle of water but advised her to take only small sips or she would become even more exhausted.

"Thank you, Jason," Lillian said as she heeded his advice, Rachel watched her little sister say words she hasn't heard in quite a long time.

She didn't know what it was about Jason but he just connected with Lillian and she didn't like this as no one knew the kind of man he was.

Rachel was a lady who if good things happen to her in quick succession, naturally expects things to take a turn for the worse.

This was the curse of pessimism and Rachel was afflicted by it.

They advanced at a slow but steady pace however this wouldn't go smoothly.

Rachel noticed the trail of blood on the floor and instructed everyone to halt, they all did as she commanded as her head darted around to survey the environment for potential threats.

But ahead, they saw corpses, people that the bullet did find their heads.

"W-What happened here?" Jason asked a general question but he got no answer.

"Look at them… I don't think all of them turned…" Bella said as they all took cover behind a car.

They knew what happened but didn't want to say it and rather chose to bite their tongue.

"Stay back! I will go ahead first," Jason said and Rachel knew someone had to and she would rather it be Jason than any of them, even though she wouldn't have minded Bella going instead.

"B-Be careful Jason," Lillian muttered and this was upsetting to her sister because she realized that Lillian was slowly becoming attached to Jason.

This would make it harder to ditch him should the time come but Jason wasn't making it easy either because he carried himself in a certain way.

"Awwww, she cares…" Jason responded and Lillian giggled in response.

The women noticed this rapport and knew it would be good for Lillian to have someone that grounded her.

Jason was off and he moved with an agility that he shouldn't otherwise have.

Jason didn't know if it was the people beyond that barricade that was responsible for this or maybe the undead had managed to find their way here but why didn't they turn?

That could be because the brain was destroyed before they could turn but it could also be because of a thousand different reasons.

Jason was not leaving anything off the table and entertained every possibility, he expected to be gunned down if it was the men beyond the wall but he noticed that there was no one in sight. Jason was cautious but there were no zombies nor warning from the people beyond the barricade.

Jason stopped right in front of the gate and he saw no one; Jason noticed that the gate had been breached but how was that possible?

How could it have been breached if it was the fucking military? There was no way that these zombies were stronger than the military so this made Jason uneasy as if they did overpower the military then what hopes did they have as civilians,

Jason gestured for them to come over, the way was clear and the girls walked towards him. They were at a huge disadvantage because they had no weapons but they could worry about that later.

The ladies reached Jason and once again, Jason offered to go in first, he took a step into the breached barricade first.

His heart was thumping, he would have lost his shit if not for the skill that he unlocked, this was the only thing keeping him sane.

[Ding!]

[Nesting Zone Located!]

This was the only thing the system said and Jason didn't need to ask any questions as he soon understood what was happening.

Jason looked around and saw more than a dozen zombies but they were all standing still like they were in a comatose state.

Jason knew any noise would be equivalent to suicide, he quickly jerked his head back and told the ladies behind him to keep quiet by placing a finger above his lips to hush them.

A light soon blinded him, it was a laser of some sort, Jason followed it with his eyes and he saw somebody in the far distance. The light pointed to a path on his left and Jason realized that this person was trying to help them.

Rachel, Lillian, and Bella soon entered the barricade because they knew that there was no going back. After all, the zombies that they had missed coming here suddenly appeared from their flanks except these weren't stationary.

Jason gulped because he has seen this so many times in games, someone was bound to make a mistake and Jason was going to make sure that someone wasn't him.
