Grand Creation - 4

[??? pov]

Tips of icy creations dripped down from the ceiling, coating the tops of our heads and the wear of our cloaks with water.

I felt it drip once more, an annoying sensation that seemed to only increase as these unknown beings crawled deeper and deeper into our territory.

Were they here for some sort of mission, our extermination? After all that was what the other unknown beings had done.

Savages that knew not the language of the beasts. Only incomprehensible sounds that brought headaches to those that tried to comprehend it.

A hand passed through mine, turning the droplets over my body into frost. Cloaking me in snow white, the color of our cave.

"Ready."

His voice echoed through my head, silent to those not us but to me, to him, it held more meaning than anything.

The language of the beasts. A way for us elevated beings to communicate as at birth we were gifted with knowledge.

On how to speak with another, through waves of telepathy that interpreted emotions and thoughts. Another though.

The one that coursed through my veins like some stormy cloud. Taking away all thoughts of the unimportant, merely drifting along the rivers of time.

I let out a breath, communicating once more that I was ready. My claws stretched out and the cloak over my body released, letting the droplets of water fall over my fur.

A roar echoed through the chamber, to the opposite of us. I turned my head, looking to the other two around me.

Were they aware of any planned distraction. But after a thought I was sure of it. It wasn't just us lying in wait.

There were more. Ferocious beasts that even a being as great as I would not engage with without proper preparation.

"Retreat, back to the shadows, our job may very well be done."

And with that I watched over.

Finding only boredom in the blind slaughter that was happening. The abnormally small creatures leaping to the brains of the uncivilized brutes.

And feasting.

One… two… three… and several more died before there was only two.

A boy and girl. One of pure white and the other of a golden shine. They were different. Knowledgeable enough to dodge and swerve.

Retreating and gathering information while simultaneously fending off the relentless attacks.

Keeping watch of the surroundings and making sure that they never crossed each other's way. A splendid show.

A whisper in that same incomprehensible manner of theirs and they were on the offense. The small creatures had exhausted themselves, or that was what white and gold had thought.

Ice coalesced into a sharp needle, flying through the air and past the cheek of the smaller being. It nicked him and I couldn't help but snicker at the reaction.

He howled in pain and started to run around in a blind panic.

For shame, the leader panicking at the lowest level of pain. If it wasn't so funny I would have ripped his head out on my own.

Just goes to show that their leader was truly one of a kind. One of the only ones that I could truly respect.

But I guess with the lack of combat between us it was only reasonable to overestimate our enemies.

It was better than underestimating them like I would now.

"Ooh did you see that… the golden one took one out."

I nodded and sent another thought out, pointing to several flaws in the white and gold's plan, and in the others plan too.

It was clear to see but the others might not be as smart as me, myself, and I.

I felt resistance against my blade, the sharp edge merely placing my power over the creature. Like its sharpness had been completely negated.

Sighing I drew towards my mana, bursting it over my arm and accelerating it just enough that my body did not explode.

With the additional power it was easy to cut the creature in two. Yet another came just as it died, only it was bigger and had a weapon rather than just some sharp claws.

I turned, ignoring it completely, barely blinking an eye as it was pierced through by an icicle.

A smirk played over Emilia's face as I cut down the one that had tried to kill her. We were in complete sync.

So much that when the last had been felled, and the stench of blood fell over my nose. So much that I found myself dazed, blinking.

Only then did I feel a hand over my own, glaring hard against the corpses of our once allies. They had died so easily.

To a surprise attack, but still, they were supposed to be veterans. And to be outclassed by these things…

Something was going on.

"Do you feel that…" I asked, looking around.

Emilia nodded and placed her shoulder to mine, placing me beside her so that she could protect me in a moment's notice.

Seconds passed, then another, another, before minutes passed by too.

All while Emilia and I found ourselves huddled in the carriage, the only warmth being the blanket we currently shared.

A blew hot air into my hands trying to warm myself up, but it didn't work.

Was I going to have to rely on my mana?

No, I shook my head, I couldn't. The gazes still held and I couldn't afford to waste any mana on such an inane objective.

"Come here." Emilia spoke, waving her hand to gesture me closer to her.

I did so, my trust in her almost absolute.

She muttered something under her breath. And the air froze.

Yet it was only to one side.

"Ah- so that was what it was." I gasped, amazed at her handling. It was spectacular. The way that she was able to draw the cold away leaving the heat to spread throughout the room.

Heat is the energy of particles, bouncing around in their space, and so too was cold. The absolute opposite.

The absence of energy.

And so, the creation of ice was just that. Taking the energy and creating cold.

What Emilia had done was instead of dissipating the heat as was usual and instinctual, she went against those instincts and created a ball of absolute cold leaving the room to become hotter in the absence of absence itself.
