A Hidden Past

I woke up to the door banging shut. I was up at once, alert, as we could be hunted at any time. The pale moon illuminated the room, revealing the figure.

Sir Michael approached me with a resolute gaze. "Miles, we have to leave. Now. I know you aren't fully healed, but we have no other choice."

"I thought you said three days?" I asked, my eyes still heavy from sleep.

"I spotted a rider from Lahore arrive not too long ago. I don't know why, but we can't take any chances."

I nodded, the weight of our fugitive status and the burning desire for justice settling heavily within me. Slipping out of bed quietly, I grabbed a white tunic on the chair beside the bed and put it on. Rachel had given me a new pair of clothes to change into the next morning. I wonder if she knew we were leaving before Sir Michael said so.
