Dinner

The nearer the dinner came, the more nervous Oikawa felt. Sure, he had dinner over at his friends house before, but that was years ago, and before his intrusive thought last night. He was still the same, his feelings were still the same. He didn't feel any different.

At least, that's what he tried to tell himself.

Throughout the day, he kept on stealing small glances at his best friend, and trying not to think too much about what he was doing. He wasn't being weird, he was just observing! But damn those abs.. No! he couldn't start thinking about him like this! Especially not now. Graduation was just a few months away! Whatever he was feeling, he had to choke it down and ignore it.

At least for now.

He could admit to himself he was slightly distracted in practice, but only slightly. He did his best to focus on sets and setter dumps, but something -more like someone- was always near his line of sight, and he'd slowly feel his concentration slip for just a moment. But quickly, he'd snap it back into place, and ignore the hammering in his chest. He didn't need this. He didn't want these weird feelings when thinking about his childhood best friend. Damn that thought, cause now he's falling down a rabbit hole of emotions.

now don't get him wrong, he knew he was bisexual since middle school, but really? Iwazumi? The temperamental teammate he'd been playing with for god know show many years now? It can't happen. It wouldn't happen. It just wouldn't work out, and then it would impact the rest of the team.

Even through classes his mind was somewhere else for the most part. His brain was always thinking of what Iwazumi would possibly be doing. Maybe he was hoping he was occupying the others thoughts too? He couldn't say for sure. All he knew is that he wished the other boy was out of his head.

That's right. He was in denial.

Soon enough, it was afternoon practice. In the changing room, his eyes kept glancing over at Iwazumi once again, and did the best they could at taking in details. His abs, and pecks, his biceps, all clouded Oikawa's thoughts. He did his best not to stare off into space about thinking of those things. He just hoped the other didn't notice.

Makki and Matsun were joking around, and Oikawa got in on it to distract himself from the mess of his brain. They talked about their after school plans for the day, and Oikawa noted the looks they had to each other as they walked to the gym. He smiled. "So when did you two start dating?" Their eyes widened, and they looked at each other, red faced. Wait, were they not together? But the looks were that of pure love and admiration. Did they not realize it?

The two jokesters were quiet for a minute, before Makki laughed. "Matsun, why didn't you tell me we were dating? I would have canceled my plans!" Oikawa chuckled. Matsun laughed back.

"I would have shown up to our last hang out with flowers!" Oikawa started full on laughing at this point.

"Okay, for real, are you two together?" They looked at each other.

"Are we?"

"I think normal friends don't make out."

"Nah that's just homie love."

"Hah, gay, I wouldn't kiss you."

"You wouldn't?" Makki said, sounding hurt.

"I mean, unless you wanted to.." Oikawa was silently dying next to them. But he started actively freaking out when they really did kiss. Not in a bad way, but more of a fangirl way. He noticed his teammates looking at him, and cleared his throat.

"Sorry. You two have been dancing around each other since first year, and I'm just exited for you two." They laughed again, and held hands, walking into the gym. "Just don't make out during practice." They rolled their eyes, but nodded.

Soon, (Too soon if you asked Oikawa) Practice was over, and he was headed to Iwazumi's house. He quietly swallowed the saliva in his mouth, trying to calm his nerves. Why was he nervous? If you asked him, he wouldn't know why either. It was confusing in all honesty. Like his brain knew something it wouldn't tell him. It puzzled him really, but he was pushing past it for now. Right now, he was hungry, and wanting to eat some of his Aunties miso soup.

Once they started eating and talking, Oikawa let the conversation between the family flow, half heartedly paying attention. Not like he could understand it anyways, since they were talking in Filipino, and they were talking so fast, that he couldn't even begin to try and understand it. Not like it would help much seeing as he barely knew the language, but still.

Iwazumi huffed in his seat, obviously not pleased with the conversation, when his mother spoke to him. "Tooru, how's your girlfriend?" She asked. His head perked up at this.

"Oh.. Uh, we broke up. It was a mutual thing though so I'm not too distraught about it." The woman nodded, giving iwazumi a look from the corner of her eye. it was so quick, he couldn't read it, and as soon as he blinked, eyes were back on him.

"School?"

"Going very well auntie." She smiled.

"Hajime, take the boy upstairs. I need to clean." She said, and he nodded at his mother.

"Come on Oikawa." He stood up, and thanked the woman for dinner, before following his friend like a lost puppy up the stairs. He sat on the desk chair in the room, and spun around a bit, before his eyes rested on Iwazumi, who was turned back to him, looking at possible video games they could play. In all honesty, he was admiring how well built the other was, when another, equally disturbing thought came up in his head.

'What would he be like in bed?'

Blushing at his own thought, he shook his head once or twice to rid himself at that thought. He didn't need to know. Not one bit. But his brain seemed to nag him for trying to repel the thought, and instead, brought it back full force. Oikawa inwardly groaned at his annoying thoughts, and just continued to stare around the room.

"Hey, shittykawa, how about this?" He said, pulling up some sort of muti-player shooting game. He had never seen it before, so it must have been new.

"Sure!"

The two played for hours until Oikawa decided he should head back to his own house. As he walked home, he kept trying to push his thoughts about his best friend into the back of his mind, but they kept pushing right back against him. He sighed.

"Maybe I like him more than I thought after all." He laughed to himself. "No, don't be silly. Even if I did, he'd only see me as a friend anyways, so what's the point?"

He was soon going to regret those words.
