Inside a Devourer’s Lair (2)

Xander was still struggling to get his leg out of the bone pile, and the trap was slowly starting to twist his ankle and dig into his shin. He could hear the clicking sound grow louder and louder and it made his heart race inside his chest.

Since the Devourer couldn't rely on his sense of hearing or smell, it had lit tiny bonfires all across the cave to help it see in the darkness. They served not only to light its lair but also to keep it warm during the chilly night.

An enormous shadow leaped from the left wall and disappeared into the darkness. The clicking had suddenly stopped, but the cave hadn't gone entirely silent. There was a peculiar gnawing sound coming from the darkness.

Something big and heavy was approaching from the front. Its putrid, rotting stench was wafting into Xander's nostrils with every step. He retched hard but somehow stopped himself from puking by covering his mouth.
