Cacodemon’s Prey

Long, bestial claws tore at the lanky wooden door, slashing it to splinters in the blink of an eye. The Cacodemon stuck out its long black tongue and leered over its prey huddled in the corner. Pulling the remains of the broken door apart with its long bony arms, it barged into the hut.

The fiend was about to pounce on the helpless child crying in his mother's arms when Bill jumped out from the darkness and tossed a bowl of salt in its face.

"Be gone, you wretched demon!" he screamed, grabbing his rusty hunting rifle and firing at the fiend.

Leena knew the bullet would just go straight through the Ethereal's shadowy figure, but to her great surprise, it struck the Cacodemon in its face, breaking off a chunk of its unhinged lower jaw.

"How is this...possible?"

The Cacodemon was as perplexed as Leena. It simply did not understand how a simple human weapon could hurt it so easily.
