Mother of the Groom

"And here I thought the Bride would run away," Sarcasm laced Henrik's voice the moment Eve appeared inside the room. She immediately furrowed her brow and turned her gaze toward the man who was nonchalantly leaning against the wall.

"Lord Henrik…" Eve uttered. "You have caught me by surprise."

"Is that indeed the case?" he arched an eyebrow and then directed his attention to her appearance.

"May I know the reason why you are here?" she asked. An undercurrent of animosity emanated from him, prompting her to review her recent actions in search of any mistakes. However, her contemplation yielded nothing. Thus, she met his gaze, awaiting his response.

"I found myself wondering why you chose to leave without telling anyone on the night of your wedding."

"Is it not intriguing that you are here while my groom remains seemingly unperturbed?" she retorted. Henrik's suspicions concerning her were evidently well-founded. After all, he was Maximilian's friend.
