Liu had to admit to himself… he was surprised.
'I thought they would ask for at least four… maybe even five, given their number.' Did he perhaps think too badly of the men before him?
He wasn't particularly suspicious of them, but Liu had already made it a habit to never see the best in people. Even the likes of his family in the Sword Saint Sect, including Yui, had to earn his trust and affection.
He never thought of extending the same sentiment to strangers.
'Still, giving them only one is a little too…' Liu found himself surprised by this line of thought, but at the same time it made sense.
His past self would have been overjoyed by this sort of arrangement, or would have perhaps considered it natural.
However, Liu couldn't see it that way. In his eyes, it was unfair exploitation—something his Master was sure to frown on if she was ever to hear about it.
