Compass, Part 4

"Shit!" Essenla swore, but Morne could hardly hear her as the entire cavern started to shake and shudder.

Those strange door-flaps on the building-sized mushrooms behind them flew open as hundreds of confused goblins streamed out. They looked around fearfully as the floor shook under their feet, but their bewilderment was soon drowned out by rage as they laid eyes on Morne and Essenla.

They screeched incomprehensible gibberish and pointed their fingers at the two humans, but perhaps because they were afraid of the quaking earth below their feet, they made no move to attack.

But something told Morne that wouldn't last forever.

"Whatever you did, it better wrap up fast," Essenla said, gripping her sword tightly. "We can't take on all of them."

Even as she spoke, the first goblin took a tentative step forward, and when it realized that it could move forward so long as it was careful, a sharp-tooth grin appeared on its face as informed the others of its discovery.
