Demonic Abilities

After finishing the testing of all of the demonic human's Jack was in charge of, he now needed to start planning even farther ahead, together with the information he had obtained from tests.

Sitting down in his apartment, with his back against the wall, Jack proceeded to take out a folder containing the information that he had gathered.

[Anastasia - String Demon]

For Jack, Anastasia was the first test subject he started testing. It was from the moment he had taken the string spears that she had created.

From the questions he had asked today, he was able to get some important pieces of information.

First, Anastasia was able to roughly guess the location of the spears, thanks to her abilities. Meaning she could be used to track enemies down or to mark everyone down so they don't get lost.

Apart from that, Jack also discovered the immense power of Anastasia strings, even being capable of cutting down a hunk of metal with absolute precision. The strings were also able to become sticky if needed and they also had the power to expand, but Jack had already guessed the former.

The only issue holding her back was her fear of battle, however, amongst all of the recruits Jack considered her to be the one with the greatest potential.

[Stefen - Ballon Demon]

Stefen on the other hand, was weak, to say the least.

He had the ability to suck in the surrounding air and store it in his body, however, his main form of attacking was letting air out in a rapid manner, sending his ballon-like arm with the capabilities of stretching towards the opponent.

Even if hit, the damage wouldn't be high. Not only that but his skin wasn't even able to stop a bullet. Jack had thought that Stefen would have the capability to reflect the bullet with his stretchy skin but on the hand, it only left him bleeding on the ground.

[Carl - Beard Demon]

Carl on the hand, had the simplest ability here. The only noteworthy thing was the fact that his beard could stop bullets. Other than that, nothing important was found.

Jack who was done reading the reports, couldn't help but clench his neck due to the sudden pain he felt. It was certainly potent, however, Jack was all too familiar with his feeling that he wasn't even bothered by it any longer.

*

An hour ago, after finishing the tests done on the demonic humans, Jack and Zain met up, both with tired faces and reluctant emotions. Entering a room with nothing but two chairs inside, Jack and Zain took their seats.

Zain with his standard annoyed face turned to face Jack, and with his typical disrespectful tone, he asked, "Is this really necessary?"

Jack who only let out a small grin, responded like a man ready to face death.

"Every tool we can get for survival is necessary, we don't know what lies behind the mountains"

"Tch"

The two of them didn't have to wait for long, as Sarah together with the children entered the room. Lily who was excited, jumped onto Jack, whilst all he did was pat her head. Sarah who was in a hurry, on the other hand, pulled Lily away from Jack without any fear and sat her down on the ground.

Pulling out a briefcase, Sarah laid it down on the ground, slowly opening it, to reveal two syringes with a dark unusual red-colored liquid inside of them.

"What's the point of the briefcase?"

"Presentation"

Ignoring her absurdness, Jack just laid back and waited until Sarah was done with her unusual presentation.

However, Stefen who was curious about the situation decided to ask what exactly was going on.

"We are enhancing our bodies.", Zain responded.

"Oh, like your eyes?", Stefen who was always interested in everything around him, continued asking with his sparkling eyes.

Zain who seemed used to the curiosity of a child didn't mind answering his questions.

"Yes, basically we are injecting the blood of a demon to gain new abilities but we are only doing this due to the sudden need for scouting the outside world."

"Oh, why don't you do this for every demon you defeat?", Stefen asked an understandable question, however, Zain couldn't help but flinch. Noticing Zain's worried expression, Jack let out a slight chuckle and answered instead.

"It's due to a process called demonification."

"Demonification?"

Pointing at his eyes, Jack responded to his innocent question.

"Yes, for example, my eyes turning gray, that is demonification, many of us are scared of the idea of turning into demons after absorbing too much of their blood, that is why we don't do it very often."

"Ah, I see, then what about your hair?"

"Hmm, my hair was brown a few years ago"

Stefen wanted to ask another question, however, noticing Jack putting his finger on his lips, he stopped.

After answering the doubts that the children had about the process, Sarah finally started the process, tying down both of Jack's arms and legs. At this point, Jack could feel the cold sense of steel in his neck.

"Ready?", Asking for a final confirmation, Sarah waited for Jack's answer.

"Yes"

And without hesitating any longer, Sarah impaled Jack on the neck, injecting the blood of a demon inside his body. Jack could feel an uncomfortable sensation on his neck, enough to feel as though something was moving around inside of his neck.

However, this unusual sensation soon turned into an unbearable pain that Jack had experienced many times. From the point of the injection, black veins started to appear on Jack's neck as they slowly moved upwards toward his eyes.

Jack's whole body jerked, and the bystanders worried as they looked towards the two men screaming in pain as they were tied down to their seats. The black veins soon reached Jack's eyes, turning the bright world outside into a sea of darkness.

Alone in the dark room, Jack could still see his hands and body, however, he was no longer tied down. Standing up and walking in the dark sea, Jack walked forward with no clear destination.

All he knew was that he needed to walk. And it wasn't long until Jack found himself in front of a unique animal, a porcupine. It was a normal animal for many, but for Jack, this was the first time seeing one.

Smiling as he looked at it, Jack approached the animal slowly.

Only for it to show its back against Jack, raising his many quills.

Not understanding that this was a defense mechanism, Jack continued to approach, he wasn't scared as he already knew this world was nothing but fake. And in no time, the raised quills of the porcupine suddenly shot out from its back, heading directly towards Jack, only for them to fall on the ground after bouncing off of Jack's skin.

"...So what you offer me, is the ability to be more resistant towards getting impaled. That's kind of neat, I guess."

After the unusual scenario, the world around Jack started to crumble as the black walls surrounding him fell to the ground, revealing a magnificent light. Opening up his eyes, and breathing heavily Jack found himself back in the real world. Looking over to his left, he could still see the black veins on Zain's face connecting to his eyes.

However, it wasn't long until they slowly started fading away.

"How long were we out?"

"The usual fifty minutes"

"I see"

Seeing as though it was only Sarah in the room, Jack could already tell that the children had been sent off to bed. Being untied by Sarah, he waited patiently as Zain continued having trouble waking back up. However, it wasn't long until he did, having the same reaction as Jack when he left the already familiar world.

Jack, on the other hand, decided to leave before Zain, leaving him behind to talk with Sarah.

***

The next day, Jack, Zain, Sarah, and the children all met up outside of the third division building, whilst multiple guards were positioned around them, they all left the moment Jack arrived. It was as though his display of power was still deep inside their minds.

Sarah also left not long after, handing the demonic children over to Jack.

Now making their way towards the fifth division building, all of them looked both excited and nervous about their new life. The old building was quickly cleaned up and refurnished in a matter of days, it made Jack wonder why this wasn't done before.

However, it wasn't exactly unusual for this to happen as the number of soldiers in the demon force only kept decreasing, in recent years.

Pulling out a paper he had been handed with the basic layout of the building, Jack gave a tour to the new members of the fifth division and gave all of them their own individual rooms.

From this point forwards, they would all be staying inside the building.

This was unusual for the demon force but considering the existence of the demonic humans, it was decided that this was a better approach for their daily lives.
