Wolfe smiled down at Malika, the Snow Leopard beastkin, and noticed that she was among the ones who had been taking the magical training. He could feel the magic in her, but she hadn't moved to the student dorms, or he would have seen her earlier.
"What made you want to stay in the inner city instead of the dorms? You are in the Academy, right?" Wolfe asked.
Malika smirked at him and her ears perked up. "Actually, I'm not. I'm taking side lessons with David, one of the instructors, but only part-time because I intend to keep working with my mom at the spire.
It's not easy to get that job, you know? We all fought over who got the best times, and I don't want to give mine up."
"No big ambitions to join the ranks of mages and travel around for work?" Wolfe asked.
She shook her head. "Nope, I want to be the next head chef. I'm still young enough that I have a shot at the spot when Cook retires, so that's what I'm aiming for.
