Chapter 49:Another Invitation

"First we must sit down, my student, there are several things I want to tell you and I better do it when we are both comfortable" Isengar said calmly as he sat on one of the sofas in the room and Adryan sat on the opposite one with a raised eyebrow.

Isengar let out a small smile at that and took his pipe out of his vest and lit it before taking a short puff.

"Did you manage to promote yourself Adryan?" At the question, the redhead just nodded as he extended his hand and formed a crow of fire that flew for a few moments in the room and then Adryan made it disappear.

The detective looked at the crow of fire with a small smile on his mouth as he held his pipe in his hand until the crow disappeared and then he looked at Adryan.

"Well done Adryan I'm sure Grievius would be proud" Isengar said with a sad smile and one formed on Adryan's face.

"Why did you bring me here teacher?" Not wanting to play games Adryan asked directly.

Isengar took another puff on his pipe and blowing out the smoke he responded.

"Grievius's funeral will be held this Saturday at Aston Cemetery in South Borough" the detective said calmly and this information surprised the redhead a bit but he also raised an eyebrow.

"That is the cemetery of the Church of the God of Machinery and Steam. I thought that Mr. Grievius was a believer in the God of Knowledge and Wisdom."

Isengar nodded as he took another puff on his pipe.

"He is but during the 17 years he was in Backlund he always claimed to be a believer in the God of Machinery and Steam so he will be buried in that cemetery"

"This is the fate of all the hidden members of the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom who die in Backlund."

Adryan could only nod gently but also a doubt that he had in his mind for a long time reappeared and he decided that now would be a good time to solve it.

"Teacher,there is something I never understood, why did Mr. Grievius recruit me to be a member of the church?"

Isengar only sighed as he placed his pipe on a table and answered.

"Members of the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom who are hidden in Backlund or elsewhere have the habit of recruiting locals to help with various jobs."

"This custom has helped us a lot over a long time because the locals have an easier time doing more things than we foreigners can't"

"We also do not reveal that we are from the church but Grievius was always different, he had an eye to determine who he could tell this secret to and who he could not"

Saying that, Isengar gave Adryan an up-and-down look, then smiled.

"I must say that I had my reservations about his decision but it's good that I was wrong"

"In the short time you were with us you achieved much more than some achieve in years"

"You are the member who discovered the acting method the fastest, you are also the member to reach sequence 7 the fastest in the entire history of the church, the previous one had achieved it in 4 years and you completely destroyed that record"

"Not to mention that you stopped Backlund's killer and brought me his characteristics and what you did at the party was also amazing"

Isengar let out a small laugh while Adryan scratched his hair in embarrassment.

"The church is extremely satisfied with your achievements and if you continue like this it is very likely that you will have a good position in the future"

"Does the church know what I've been doing?" Adryan asked tensely and Isengar nodded.

"Grievius and I have been sending several reports about you and the church is very satisfied with everything you have done."

Isengar had a proud smile as he said something that made Adryan tense.

"It's not too crazy to think that you will be invited to Lenburg to be part of a more professional team in the future"

'Shit'Adryan thought as he raised a hand to his face and Isengar just let out another laugh.

"Don't worry about that, Adryan, it's still a long time before they invite you,you need to make a lot more contributions before that right now you're a member with huge potential but that's about it"

Adrian just let out another sigh before looking back at Isengar.

"What time on Saturday is the funeral and what do I have to wear?"

"11:00 in the morning and a formal black suit will suffice" Isengar answered calmly, now without his smile.

"Thank you for inviting me, teacher, I'll see you on Saturday" Adryan said as he got up from the sofa.

"But before I go, teacher, could you do something for me?"

"As long as it's within my capabilities"

"Please send a funeral invitation to my house and also act like you don't know me once we're at the funeral."

At the request, Isengar only raised an eyebrow as he nodded.

"That won't be a problem my student but may I ask why?"

"I am being watched by the Nighthawks and it would be very suspicious to attend a funeral that I was never invited to and also that I already know you since we were never seen together"

Looking into Isengar's eyes, Adryan added.

"I would prefer to avoid problems teacher"

A proud smile formed on Isengar's face who nodded.

"It is my pleasure my student take care" Isengar replied and Adryan gave him a small smile before leaving the room.

Putting the simple mask on his face again, Adryan left the party venue and started on his way to Nathan and Sasha's house.

'The church of the dragon knows of my existence, I just hope that's all they know,' Adryan thought heavily as he continued on his way home.

"I also have to buy another suit for the funeral..." Adryan said softly to the air.
