Of course they all noticed that Trent was missing the following morning at breakfast, and I had given the excuse that he had to go run a few errands out of town for my uncle.
“Well, that’s not right!” Tessa complained for him. “It’s the weekend.”
“I know, but it was really urgent,” I said, trying to be casual and not get emotional. But I could tell that each of them was reading the worry on my face. “Come on,” I continued, pushing away my sadness for the moment so they wouldn’t worry and ask more questions I wasn’t able to answer. “The library is off limits, but we still have a scavenger hunt.”
“What is the prize for the person that wins though?” Blake asked mischievously.
“What do you think it should be?” Darla asked him.
“Winner gets seven minutes in a closet with the person of their choosing,” he suggested.
