It was not what I had expected. When I pictured high society vampires, I thought of lavish white buildings with pillars and old-style patterns decorating the outside, not an old church with religious symbols hanging from every stained glass window.

"Isn't this some kind of blasphemy?" I asked as we pulled into the parking lot and heard Mordecai laugh.

"Probably, but it's tax-free, and the cops are less likely to come to check in on them here," said Mordecai, "this whole building is just a front, owned by the Vampire King. "

"Oh," I said. "I guess that explains the dark windows."

Mordecai came around to the backside of the car. I had been waiting for this moment since we began the trip. The humans were taken out first. They did not understand where they were going. They just chatted among themselves, talking about their previous jobs and experiences.
