Chapter 37

Cedric and Sofia

Sofia Castel rose her cultivation until it reach the high end of the core formation rank, vastly surpassing Avery's level.

"W-wait!" Avery's expression changes quickly from anger to fear. "Sofia, this is just a misunderstanding!."

"A misunderstanding, uh? Go ahead then, explain yourself." Cedric Hightower looked down at Avery with his arms crossed.

Siegfried was surprised when He felt the boy's cultivation. The Hightower young noble was at the utmost peak of the core formation rank. He could probably break through the rank of an Official Magus any time he wanted, making him one of the youngest Magus on the continent.

'He must have a good reason for waiting before breaking through the last barrier.'

"Well?" Cedric was losing his patience.

Avery quickly pointed to Siegfried. "It was him! I saw him getting very close to my- I mean to Miss Rae. I was just trying to save her-!"

Sofia removed the sword from his neck, making Avery breathe in relief. But then, she smacked him on the head with the pommel.

"Ugh!" Avery went to his knees and clutched his head in pain.

"You are a terrible liar. Stay away from Rae!, this is the last warning I give you." Shouted Sofia.

"If you are that sexually frustrated, you can ask one of your minions for help." Cedric gave him a mocking smile.

Avery gave them a brief look of pure rage, but he then looked away. Knowing that he had no chance of winning here. He stood up and walked away.

Cedric was the first one to address them. He gave Rae a nod before turning to Siegfried.

"We haven't been introduced yet. I am Cedric Hightower, third son of Gregor Hightower, the current Great General of Aglioso." He then extended his hand for Siegfried to shake.

"I am Siegfried Lancaster, nice to meet you, Lord Hightower." He said while shaking the young Lord's hand.

"Just call me Cedric, I am not one for formalities. Much to my father's dismay." Cedric chuckled.

"Yes, but your father does have a point. You are too lax for a member of the Great General family. More noble manners would do you no harm." Sofia approached them.

"But you love my playful side. I know you do." Cedrid gave Sofia a flirty wink.

"Sofia blushed a bit. "This is not the time or the place for that! Behave yourself, Cedric!"

She then got closer to Rae. "Are you okay? That bastard didn't hurt you, right?" She looked Rae up and down, looking for any injuries.

Rae rose her palms in the air. "I'm fine, Sofia. Avery had just spotted us, and I had Siegfried here with me anyways. He is very strong too, you know?"

"Of course, I do remember your story of how he saved you last week." Sofial looked at Siegfried and gave him a nod. "Thank you for that. I am Sofia Castel, by the way. I believe, my cousin Iris is in your class."

"She is." Answered Siegfried. "Very talented with the sword, that girl."

"She is probably as good as me when it comes to sword skills." Sofia made a sad expression. "If it wasn't for her affinity…"

"I still don't understand how could she be born with a fire affinity. Don't Magus noble families arrange their marriages according to the affinity of their partners?" Asked Rae.

"Im afraid that…that is not my story to tell, sorry." Sofia ended that part of the conversation quite abruptly.

"Anyways…" Cedric noticed the tension and wanted to change the topic. "So, you are very strong." He looked at Siegfried. "Maybe we can spar sometimes. What do you say?"

"Cedrid, are you bulling a first-year, perhaps?" Asked Sofia.

"Nonsense, Sofia! I'm just politely requesting a spar, can't you see it? " Cedrid defended himself.

"You don't have to humor him. He likes to challenge anyone who shows some talent. Sometimes I think that there is nothing inside your head other than fighting people." Huffed Sofia.

"I heard Professor Garret that you are quite talented in both magic and martial arts. Do you use any weapon in particular?" Asked Cedric.

"I use the long spear." Answered Siegfried.

"Oh!" Cedrid made a surprised expression. "That's a rare choice. Most go for the double edge long sword, except the Vance, who have always preferred giant axes for some reason. Well…I can't really judge, I am a bit of an oddball myself."

Cedrid took something from his pouch and placed it on his hand.

"Expand!" He commanded. The weapon grew in size immediately. Cedrid then was holding a gigantic greatsword. It was as tall as Cedric himself and thicker than both his arms combined. It had a single edge, making it almost seem like a saber and the blade was curved.

"A curved greatsword. That is quite an unusual weapon." Commented Siegfried.

"Oh? yo known about it too!. I always liked big swords. Then, one day, I found the design for this sword in some ancient book, back in my family's library. I contacted a skillful smith and he crafted this beauty for me." Said Cedrid while moving his sword around.

"I still don't understand why you like that bulky thing. With enough magic support, even a thin blade like mine can cut through anything." Said Sofia.

"You don't understand! This is about manliness!" Shouted Cedric with pride.

Sofia decided that it was better to just ignore him. "You two were going to the library, right? Go ahead then, we will bother you no longer." She then gave Rae a look. "Come visit me later, okay?"

Sofia then dragged Cedrid away.

"Come on, we had to study runes today."

'So...that was the number one genius of the academy, the guy with S rank affinity.' Thought Siegfried as he watched them leave.

"Those two are quite something, uh?" Commented Rae.

"Indeed, they also seemed very close. Are they a couple?" Asked Siegfried.

"More than that, they are engaged. Those two are the power couple of the academy."
