Julia Locke POV:
Back when I had shown Marcus my other imprints, I had needed to inject him with a special version of my venom. I didn’t need it to see the hundreds of versions of myself that I had left with the members of my family.
I never used the influence my imprints had over my family to exercise direct control over them, but if I gave them a suggestion it would be almost impossible for them to refuse once I insisted.
Right now, all members of my family were obeying one such suggestion: Leave town.
Families were going away for the weekend; businesses were closing up and giving their employees a brief vacation. A steady stream of cars was making its way out of town. At the same time, I’d had the local police close off the roads into town.
It’s ironic. By trying to save my family, I’m exercising the same kind of control that the Red Chapter insists makes me a threat.
