CHAPTER 99
288 AC
POV LORD STARK
"My lord, if you keep this information to yourself, we can keep being on the same side. When I said I see your sons as my brother, I was being honest."
He is not a warg but something similar. I always found his aptitude for animal training a bit weird, but I didn't expect him to have magic.
"Now, my lord, you're beginning to understand why I'm such a self-confident person."
"There was something I always wondered about. When we use smoke bombs, they do not cover an area of more than 5 meters, but when you use them, they easily exceed 10 meters in diameter. Maester Luwin thinks this is the case because he couldn't keep the ratio of the ingredients well, but after what I learned, other things come to my mind."
"You are right. That is one of my abilities."
"Did you beat my knights using magic too?"
"Yes and no, I used magic to boost my physic, but everything else was thanks to my peerless archery skills."
"You are as modest as always."
"What can I say? I have a God-given talent, and it makes me perfect at everything I do."
"So, you can beat 100 men army?"
"If it is a head-on fight, I can't, but in an ambush, it becomes possible."
This was a very surprising revelation indeed. I had no idea what to do right now, but at the same time, a war was approaching that we had to win.
"I won't share what I've learned with anyone, but when we're done and in a calmer state of affairs, I'll have questions for you. At that time, if you agree to answer these questions honestly, I'll give you a free role in this campaign."
"I'm sorry, my lord, but I wouldn't tell you this if I didn't have a way to make sure you keep my secret strictly."
Is he threatening me? I can hardly defend myself if he is as strong as he claims, but I slowly put my hand on the sword at my waist. Aermir said, a little embarrassed.
"I'm not threatening you. If you want to see my power firsthand, I can prove it to you."
"What is this method?"
"I have a skill called an unbreakable oath. If we both take this oath, we can never break the subject we swore without the other party's permission."
"How can you expect me to trust you when you can't trust me?"
"It's a disadvantage for me to do the same when you can kick me aside at any time. I have invested too much in the north, and if I hurt you, I will have to leave the north."
What he said made sense, and I wanted to see his strength, too. So, my curiosity finally took over, and I said
"Show me that unbreakable vow, but first, tell me how it works."
"It works two ways, a one-sided oath or a two-sided oath. We'll now take a two-sided oath and choose a punishment for the person who broke our oath. Then we'll both take the oath. But we have to be in a magic circle while doing them."
"What will the punishment be, and what is the magic circle?"
"It can be anything from the lightest punishment to the death, but the oath will only be effective when done voluntarily and without any influence. As for the magic circle, it will allow the spell to be gathered in one place for the oath to be fulfilled."
It sounds hard to believe what he says, but let's try it.
"My lord, please take a few steps back and don't be afraid of the lights that will appear on the ground."
Aermir whispered something, and the fingernail on the index finger of his left hand grew into a claw and cut his right hand a little. Seeing this transformation, I tensed a little and gripped the hilt of my sword. After a few seconds, his hand returned to normal. He turned and made a fist with his bleeding right hand, causing the blood to drip onto the ground, and as soon as the blood dripped onto the ground, he said:
"Juramentio (oath magic)"
a white light started to come out from under his feet, and a circle of about 2 meters started to form, and a kind of writing in blood red color that I could not understand began to form outside this circle: 𐰆𐰀𐱃𐰴 𐰢𐰏𐰃𐰲
"My lord, you may enter the circle."
I hesitantly walked into the circle and said Aermir.
"Eddard Stark will not be able to tell anyone, directly or indirectly, about Aermir Drasil's powers. If he tries to break his vow, he will be temporarily paralyzed and unable to move until he decides not to break his vow, but if he continues to try, he will die. In return for this oath, Aermir Drasil will answer Eddard Stark's ten questions without lying, but if he asks things he cannot share, he will not answer that question."
He stopped for a moment and said,
"If I hadn't set a penalty right now, the default penalty for the oath would have kicked in, which is death the second you thought about breaking the oath."
He extended his hand to me as if to shake hands, and when I grasped his hand, lightning literally went through my body. Beams of white and red light began to dance between our hands and went under our skin. As I looked at Aermir, I watched in amazement as the light beams under his skin slowly rose up his arm, reached his neck, and then disappeared into his head. I could feel the same thing happening to me. The illuminated circle under our feet slowly faded away.
"My lord, will you try to write on a piece of paper what is happening now?"
As soon as I heard Aermir's voice, I shook myself from my amazement and admiration. I went to my desk, and when I tried to write what was happening on the parchment, I couldn't move my hand. I couldn't even move my head or my eyes. I was almost frozen like a statue. A sense of helplessness and terror came over me at once. Sensing this, Aermir immediately came to me and tried to calm me down.
"My lord, calm down. If your desire to share my secret disappears, you will be back to normal in a few seconds."
Before he even finished what he had to say, my body was free, and I collapsed into my seat like a sack of millet. I never wanted to feel this way again.
"If you try to break your oath, this will happen every time, and if you push yourself, you will die."
