First day at work.

Marian POV

Morning came and I had no other choice but to get ready for work. Yes, my mum made it clear, there was no backing out. This is my life and I had to face it.

When I woke up, my mother was no longer in bed. I left her room like a grouch and went to my room to prepare for work.

On my bed, the perfectly matched outfit laid on it caught my eyes. I moved closer and inspected the clothes.

A black fitted button down knee length skirt with a white blouse, which has a big bow on it, was folded neatly on my bed. On the floor, black heels were neatly placed.

A small note was attached to the clothes.

Hope it fits love.

I smiled and thanked my mum inwardly before rushing to the bathroom to run a quick bath.

After dressing up, I went to the dining room to break my fast.

"It fits well dear, better than it did on me", My mother clapped her hands as she stood up to hug me.

"Thank you mum".

"Come sit, we don't have all day", she said as she filled an empty plate with a pancake and plastered syrup on it for me.

After our meal, we moved to the entrance where two black sleek cars stopped to take us to work.

On our ride to the company, my mother's secretary Melissa gave me a tablet and said, "This is your new profile, you are Miller Teresa Marian, the only daughter of Mr Paul Miller, you graduated from Princeton University and have a bachelor's degree in Management science. You are 25 years old and also have a master's degree. We are expecting some reporters at our destination, please brace yourself. Do not let anyone make you feel uncomfortable".

I felt like all the words she uttered flew around me, as I looked at them, unfamiliar with who Miller Teresa Marian is. I do not know who she is but she's not me!

I didn't even attend college talkmore of an Ivy league school.

My mother could tell from the look on my face that I was not okay with all Melissa said.

She squeezed my hand and whispered, "It's going to be alright".

"I hate your world mum", I murmured as I rested my head on the window and watched as objects moved past us as the car drove down the street.

"Me too dear. It's just what life has in store for us", she replied softly.

I totally disagree with what my mother said. We as humans have the liberty to do exactly the things that make us happy, irrespective of other people's views or beliefs.

I don't feel the desire to pretend to be well educated because of what others might think about me, I just wish my mother would see things that way and allow me to go back to my life as a waitress. None of these things suit me.

As the car came to a stop at the entrance, my mother told me to stay in. She alighted and walked to the other side to open the door for me.

The entrance was crowded with so many people who had cameras and other devices in their hands. Are they reporters? Melissa was serious about the reporter's thing, but why do we have to alert reporters about our arrival?

Bright. That was the first word that flashed through my head.

Reporters stood outside with cameras and recorders as they ceaselessly took pictures of us.

The place was noisy due to so many people talking at the same time. My mother led me to the entrance as reporters continued to beg for our attention.

"Miss Miller, where have you been all these years?"

"You were born an heiress, why are you just being introduced into society now?"

"What kind of life did you live all this time?"

"When Mr Miller was alive, he never mentioned you, were you truly his biological child?"

That question halted my steps. I turned to look at the reporter who asked that question.

Only if she knew how much I hate this lifestyle. I wished my mother was an average person and we would have had our happily ever after as mother and child have been reunited.

The reporter confidently rephrased her question as she realized that she had me exactly where she wanted.

"Will your DNA results match Late Mr Millers'?".

My mother nudged my shoulder and directed me into the reception.

"People are questioning your legitimacy, you have to say something!"

"These people are not worth our time. We just need them to spread the good news. That Go Foods now has an heir" Melissa explained as we strode into the building.

The reporter's shrill voice was cut off by the closed door.

I totally forgot about all that happened outside as I took in my beautiful view.

Whosoever designed this building deserves an award or needs to be recorded in the Guinness book of records.

I stood in awe as I admired the modern architecture of the reception.

People walked around in groups, they bowed in respect to my mother and continued their journey to wherever they were going to. They all had serious looks on their faces. The people somehow managed to make the place look more beautiful with their activities.

I turned to my mother and apologized profusely, "I'm so sorry mum". As I stood still and took in the beautiful structure, my mother and her secretary stood as well.

"It's okay dear, shall we?", my mother smiled as she led me to the elevator.

At the CEO'S floor, everyone stood up and greeted my mother and I, with a few congratulating me.

My mother told me the rules here, I was free to stay in her office if I wanted to relax but my true seat for now is with her assistant. For the next few months, I would be acting like an assistant to Melissa.

It's going to be a very very long day.
