"How do you know that?" He asked, not in a serious tone, but not in a mild time either. He was just surprised I knew.
"You...you told me," I lied.
He winced his eyes at me for some seconds as I tried my best not to blink after lying but he caught me. I knew he had caught me when he laughed.
"What?" I asked like I didn't know.
"I didn't tell you, Julie."
"You did," I shrugged and decided not to accept being caught at my lie.
"Stop, you're terrible at the lying thing."
"What, my blink gave it away?"
"Not even that. I know I haven't told you because I haven't told anyone. Not you, not Nick, no one. Well, just my mum. And that's because she figured it out herself. So how did you know? You checked my diary app on my phone?"
"No?" I scoffed,"I don't even know the password to your phone." I told him and he sat up to look at me, surprised again.
"You don't?"
"No. You've never mentioned." I shrugged.
"That day, you were gaming with my phone and you asked "password", and I said "0346"."
"Ohhhhh," I laughed."No, o my gosh. That was...I was asked to input my voice in the game. They like asked me to a word so they could use it for my character in the game so I just said "password"." I explained.
"Oh." He chuckled and rested his head back on my thighs."So how'd you know the celibacy thing then?" He asked and I realized I should have just agreed to getting the information from his phone because how do I tell him that Casey hacked into his phone and told me.
"We've been dating for a month now, you haven't brought up sex," I thought of something legible.
"Well, that's normal. We've done other stuff." He shrugged.
"That was just last week." I defended."I just guessed you were celibate." I looked up at the sky when I lied this time and hoped I didn't get caught.
"Do you want to have sex?" He asked and made me look back at him. I stared at his face on my thighs blandly for some seconds before feeling the heat on my face and realizing how pink my face must have gotten.
I looked away and heard him chuckled."Let me see," he stretched his neck to where I was looking at to catch a glimpse of my face so I covered my face with my palms.
Why was I blushing so hard? I could have just said "Yes. Yes, I want to have sex with you, Uche. I have wanted to do it since a week after I met you," but here I was being shy about it.
"Alright," I heard him say as he sat up from my laps. He held my wrists and got me to take my hands away from my face. I bit my lips, not minding the pain because all my mind was thinking was Uche. Just Uche.
"Fuck celibacy, Julie. It used to be easy when you weren't here and now I'm dating you, it's the most impossible thing on earth." He swallowed and my eyes followed his Adam's apple as they went up and down.
I felt that sensation in between my legs again. The longing for him. He wasn't even being sexual and yet, I was getting turned on.
"I wish this whole case with Nate beung at the hospital wasn't happening. Then my dad and those people won't be at my house right now."
Uche let go of my hands and shifted closer to me, then he whispered in my left ear." I really want to take you back home and..." He breathed in my ear and I lost it.
I was about to kiss him when April came out from nowhere."Julie! The game's about to start!" She announced lie we had discussed something like that.
I gave her a confused and turned to see Uche doing so too."Come on! It's about to start and I don't want the game to start without you." She said excitedly and came and pulled me up, away from Uche.
"What game is that?" Uche asked at the same time I was freeing myself from her.
"It's a drinking game, it's happening inside right now. You can come play too," She replied Uche in a softer voice. I rolled my eyes. I don't even know how she located us.
"We don't want to play," Uche then said and turned to me."Or do you?" He asked me. I shook my head in response.
April hissed and went back inside. Just as soon as she left, she came back out with Kim before Uche and I could go back to enjoying our time alone.
"Kim, tell them they have to play the game if they wanna still be a part of the party." She stood, hands on her waist as she told Kim.
"Party rules guy, you wanna be at the party, you've gotta play games with everyone."
"What rule is that?" Uche asked his friend who stuttered while responding.
"I don't know. Everyone...Everyone knows it's a thing."
"Let's just play the stupid game," I told Uche and started to walk into the house, irritated that they wouldn't let me just spend some time alone with Uche.
I stood at corner when I went in. The music was no longer deafeningly loud like before. I wonder if the neighbors traveled along with his parents not to have complained by now or call the cops.
I watched as Uche walked in and stood for a while, trying to locate me. The moment our eyes met, he smiled charmingly like he always did and strode to me.
"Do you wanna just head back home and skip the stupid game?" He asked when he got to me. I looked behind him, some eyes were already on us just because he was talking to me in a corner and the music wasn't loud enough to distract them anymore.
"Nah, the game seems interesting." I answered. Uche then leaned on the wall, right next to me.
Nick and Casey staggered in and Kim clapped and got everyone's attention."Alright, everyone's here. Here's how the game goes. There's a jar here...April show then the jar," he smiled and April lifted the jar for everyone to see.
"April's idea," Kim smiled again before continuing."Were gonna pass the jar around and if it gets to you, pass it on to the next person. If the music pauses with the jar in your hand, you'll take out a card from the jar and read out the question and answer it. If you don't want to answer it, you drink."
"Everyone understand the game?" April asked and everyone nodded."Julie, you have to sit so the jar can be passe to you." April said and got everyone to look at be and Uche. I sighed and went to take a seat. Uche sat next to me and April rolled her eyes when she noticed.
"Good, let's start." Kim clapped again."Dj?" He turned to one of his and Uche's mutual friend who was DJing for the night.
The music started and the jar started going around. The jar got to Uche and he gave it to me. I was about to pass it to the next person when the music stopped.
I chuckled dryly, hoping the music didn't really stop but it did. April came up to me and took the jar, bending it for me to put my hand in and take one of the cards.
I sighed and took a card out and she smirked at me, pretty suspiciously. I really wished Casey was not drunk and sitting next Nick right now, when would have surely known what April was up to.
"Read it out for everyone to hear," April said after I opened the card. I didn't want to answer the question, not to speak of reading it out for everyone to hear.
"Let me help you," April snatched the card from me and opened it."When was the last time you fucked someone? And was it good?" April dragged the last word as she read the question out.
Everyone turned their eyes to me, waiting for my answer. I could feel my face heating up with nervousness.
"I'll drink," I muttered and felt Uche's hand on mine on the sofa we shared. I took my hands away before someone noticed.
"We should have left," he whispered.
"You're not helping by saying that now," I let him know and turned to April holding a shot glass filled with whiskey. I've never drank that before but I guess there was a first time for everything.
I closed my eyes and poured it into my mouth, swallowing it immediately and feeling it burn as it went down my throat.
April took back the glass and gave the jar to the guy next to me."Music!" She announced and the DJ started the music again.
"I wanna throw up," I turned to Uche when I was sure the music was loud enough to drown my voice.
He was about to stand up but I grabbed his hand to stop him."That was just an expression, I don't really wanna throw up."
"You good?" He asked, concerned.
"I'm fine, it's just alcohol." I decided to be tough about it.
