Chapter 20: Sweet Lies

DESMOND'S APARTMENT

POV DESMOND

The evening after Nathaniel had come over, I called my uncle to set up a time to speak. He was the main key holder for the house in Maine. I didn't need his permission but I did have to create a setup so he wouldn't come up there himself. The snow had gotten worse over the day, so I called Nigel to drive me.

I walked out of my building's main entrance and was greeted by flurries of snow. I pulled my scarf tighter over my face and waved at Nigel. He rushed out of the driver's side to open up my door.

"Good to see you again Mr. Blakely," he said as he helped me into the car. I brushed snowflakes off my coat and hat as Nigel came back around to sit at the wheel.

"Thank you for coming to my rescue, Nigel," I said as Nigel pulled out onto the street.

"It is my pleasure to assist you in any way I can," he replied. "Just to your uncles this evening?"

I nodded and Nigel set off toward my uncle's mansion.
