Besides I don't know what you expect. A character can feel a myriad of emotions so why should be a problem if I show a confused or mad MC?

He is simply mad about the fact that when it was him that was beaten that way no one said nothing, but now that he did it to someone else people got mad. There is nothing to explain here since it has been well established that Erik was bullied heavily.
He's turning into the fighter the school, military, and society seem to expect all the students to be. All the adults are worried the kids aren't ruthless enough for military school. The school and police want to encourage kids assaulting each other to toughen up. They even complained that the bullied kids whine too much (during the disappearance investigation). I'm surprised these matches aren't more brutal and the healers shouldn't be shocked when things almost get out of hand based on the setting that's been built up XD
