“Aeliana, are you going to let me do it for you?” Jacques let his long, wavy, dark hair down so that it unleashed in nearly perfect syncopation with hers. He knew in his heart that Aeliana would prove to be useful, particularly when it came to understanding the true depth of his nature.

“I suppose we can just study the cards together,” Aeliana took Jacques by the hand and began to thread his fingers comfortably through hers. It seemed so vacuous, so deathly, so empty, that Aeliana lacked the ability to truly discern right from wrong.
