Summary: Cold chills and an unpleasant fever is how you started your day, and you would have called off work if you could afford to. You tried your best to make it through the busy Friday night managing Lux, but your boss is having none of that.

.....................................................................

You'd woken up, tired and disoriented, like a hangover without the fun that preceded it. Your temperature was well past acceptable and despite your burning body, you felt so cold. The blanket you had wrapped around you did little to help, and you searched for your phone under your pillows.

You'd almost called work, to tell them you wouldn't be coming in, your boss was a reasonable man, he'd understand. He also happened to be your closet friend. You suspected he wouldn't even care if you didn't call at all, but you didn't want to worry him.

There was also the matter of paying your rent, which your landlord had raised to a substantially higher rate. You've been picking up day and night shifts ever since. Which also meant if you wanted to make rent and pay your bills this month, you couldn't afford a day off.

You sighed heavily, pulling yourself out of bed, groaning at the way your entire body ached. Maybe you could find some medicine before your shift this evening.

"Y/N, we're out of bourbon!" A bartender called to you as you stacked new whiskey bottles onto the shelves.

"Alright, I'll run in the back and get some more in a minute." You replied.

Friday nights were always such a busy time at Lux, and as the night shift manager, it often required a lot of running on your part. You headed back to the storage rooms, opening the room that stored all the alcohol and extra glasses. The music from the club was quieter now, faint as you navigated the halls that lead to the supply rooms, a welcomed break for your pounding headache.

"Alright... where's the bourbon?"

You nudged the door open with your foot, eyes sweeping over the many bottles on the shelves. A yawn escaped you, as you rubbed your burning eyes. Your exhaustion was catching up to you and reading the labels was becoming taxing.

"Jacob, my usual if you would." Lucifer said as he leaned back against the bar.

Said bartender wiped down the counter as he spoke.

"I'm sorry sir, but we're out."

Lucifer frowned turning to face his employee.

"What do you mean we're out? I've just ordered a new shipment yesterday. Who's in charge tonight?"

"Y/N."

Lucifer's frown deepened after hearing that, and he stood up straight.

"That certainly doesn't sound like her, she's always been such a diligent worker."

"She went back to the storage room half an hour ago, and I haven't seen her since." Jacob shrugged.

Lucifer thanked him, walking towards the back of Lux, curious as to what was keeping you.

"Hello?"

He glanced around the room, until his eyes landed on you, huddle in the corner, asleep on a pile of table cloths. He raised an eyebrow, approaching you quietly before kneeling down beside you.

"Oh dear, sleeping on the job are we?" He chuckled placing a hand on your arm to wake you.

He pulled his hand back when he felt how hot to the touch your skin was. He pressed the back of his hand to your forehead, frowning at the obvious fever you were running.

"I see..."

He grabbed your arms.

"Darling wake up." He spoke softly, shaking you gently.

You groaned in discomfort, rolling onto your side to escape whatever was disturbing your slumber. Lucifer smiled a little, shaking his head. He was careful when he gathered you into his arms, standing as he carried you from the room. Much to his luck he ran into Maze as he headed for the private elevator to the penthouse. The one at the back of the club, only accessible to himself and a handful of people.

"Ah Mazikeen, would you be a dear and cover the rest of Y/N's shift for the night, I'm afraid she's a bit under the weather right now."

Maze looked from Lucifer to you, asleep in the devil's arms, face flushed and lips pale, your eyebrows drawn together in discomfort.

"Sure, but you owe me."

Lucifer took you to the penthouse, holding you as if you were made of glass. He carefully laid you in his bed once the two of you finally reached his home.

"What is it sick people are supposed to eat again?" He muttered pulling out his phone.

"Doctor! Hello, do you have a moment?" He slipped from the room, leaving you tucked into his bed.

~

You tossed a bit, squinting against the bright lights. Since when was the storage room this bright, or the table cloths this smooth?

You sat up slowly, taking in your surroundings, and frowning as you realized you weren't in the storage room anymore. The sound of footsteps drew your attention towards the living room as Lucifer walked up the stairs to his bedroom.

"Lucifer?"

He smiled when he saw you were awake, and you eyed the bowl in his hands.

"Oh good you've already woken up, are you feeling any better?"

He sat the bowl down on the nightstand, pressing a hand to your forehead when you didn't respond. He clicked his tongue in disapproval when he felt how hot your skin still was.

"What am I doing here? I need to get back to work, I wasn't sleeping too long was I?"

Lucifer frowned when you attempted to get up, and he grabbed your shoulders.

"You're concerned about work? Darling I found you asleep on a pile of table cloths."

"Well I admit I've been feeling a little off but-"

"Your temperature is in the hundreds, I'm told that's high for humans."

You raised an eyebrow at that.

"You took my temperature?"

"Yes you were sleeping quite heavily, I slipped a thermometer under your tongue while I called the Doctor." Lucifer explained.

He sat beside you on the bed, motioning for you to lay back, and you complied after a brief stare off. Lucifer pulled the blanket back over you.

"Now the Doctor also informed me it was probably just a flu and that's really nothing to worry about. However, she did recommend you eat some chicken broth, it's good for you."

Lucifer picked up the bowl once more handing it to you with an expectant smile. You carefully took the bowl from his hands setting it on your lap.

"You were worried about me?"

He handed you the spoon and glanced at you curiously.

"I always worry about you, which is why I'd like to know why you're working yourself into the ground."

You set the spoon in the bowl, sighing a little.

"My landlord hiked up my rent, I can't really afford to stay there unless I work all the time."

Lucifer frowned, watching you eat for a few moments before speaking again.

"Then I'll help you find a better place, maybe a bit closer to work, so you aren't making yourself sick." He offered.

You smiled, a little.

"Thank you, Luci."

"Of course love, now finish your broth and get some rest, I'll be back in to check on you in a bit, you can rest here for the night."

He stood, pressing a kiss to your forehead.

"And perhaps some medicine for that ghastly fever of yours."
