5.5 Beneath the Surface

Morgana entered the court, gracefully taking her seat. She looked down at the elegant robes she wore and couldn't help but smile.

She was confident that once she asked the emperor if she could teach Seraphina, he'd readily agree. Her plan included spending enough time with the young girl to subtly convince her to lend Morgana the dog for a day.

Anticipation filled her as she thought about Seraphina's death. In Morgana's view, the emperor should favor her over the seemingly spoiled brat.

Catching a glimpse of someone watching her, she turned her attention to Chancellor Magnus Shadowblade.

Magnus nodded, and she reciprocated with a smile. However, she quickly averted her eyes, letting a flash of ridicule pass. Contrary to what the emperor's brother believed, Morgana wasn't aiding in any attempt to overthrow the emperor.
