Chapter 52

There wasn’t anymore talking as the room emptied and the doctor fluttered about, turning on another lamp. As soon as the door shut behind the captain, the doctor was calmly giving orders to those helping him.

The coldness of the room was already seeping through the light sheet around Jayde, helping cool her. The sound of a zipper filled the room as something was opened, then the press of someone - or someone - on the bed. Jayde slowly turned her head towards it.

“Oh, oh. Princess. I hate seeing you like this,” the doctor’s voice was gruff. “I need to get you undressed though so I can see what the extent of the damage is. I can tell you won’t be able to talk to me very easily right now, but I need to know that I can help you without stressing or scaring you more. I need to start an I.V. to help pump you with fluids and vitamins. Are those things okay with you? Can you manage?”
