Comms Lost

Varya's blue eyes were fixed on the sky.

Between clouds, there were ships just outside of the atmosphere and moving closer.

"It's just Basileus and his troops coming home, isn't it?" she asked.

When there was silence from Galen, her voice became desperate.

"Isn't it?!" she snapped and grabbed his arm.

She knew it was illogical and that Basileus wasn't due to come back for at least another week. Her mind was having trouble coming to grips with an emergency - if that's what it was.

"I don't recognize those ships, Varya," Galen said quietly. "Let's get back to the trees so at least we're covered. There's a communicator in the hovercar."

Since Varya seemed to be in shock, Galen had to take the lead and grab her hand. He practically dragged her to the forest. It would make their trip back longer but it would be safer.

She wrenched her hand away from him once they were between trees.
