Chapter 28_ Sounds like a nice plan

She knew the first question the others would ask them as soon as they met was about Fender's health and she was right. At least, up to a point.

" Where is Fender?" Calliope and Gizem asked simultaneously.

August gave a whisper " How is he?"

" What sort of poison was used on him?" Vidal's question was the one that did not tally with her expectations.

She arched an eyebrow, surprised Vidal was more concerned about the type of poison that was used on Fender rather than if he survived.

" He is getting worst. The healer is having a hard time discovering the type of poison so, we had to leave him there and come back for updates on the old woman. Saving Fender's life will be easier if we find out the type of poison first" Farris informed the rest about their ordeal.

That answers the question of where, how and what type of poison Fender was poisoned with.

" Well, we have bad news" Gizem stated plainly but Calliope cut her short.

" The healer better find out how to save him because we have a situation here" she said.

If Gizem was irritated by getting interrupted while talking, she did not show it.

Rune was dissatisfied on hearing that. She had always thought she would be the first to die in their family but it seemed Fender wants to beat her to it and she didn't like it.

He might be the one who gets on her every nerve the most but he was still family, he was her brother.

" What happened?" Luna who was seated on the sofa with Amadio standing beside her while she rested her head on his arms, looking tired.

Well, they were originals, they don't get tired so, maybe the woman was sad- deeply sad, Rune suggested.

Calliope was the best one to give speeches so, the floor was hers to take. " Can you believe that darn old woman and her family claims she hadn't stepped a foot out of the house at all?" she was explaining but Luna interrupted with her question.

" Her family? I thought she was bored for living alone and that's why she is a poke noser" she wondered.

Same question on Rune's mind.

" Yes, her children and their children came on their monthly or whatever visit they called it" August was the one who answered her, shaking his palm in the empty space.

Vidal was unusually quiet, Rune noted. Was he so concerned that talking was hard for him to do? But Rune could tell he was worried as an uneasy outlet remained on the face of him.

" Oh, that explains it" Luna shook her head.

Farris irritated voice came next. " Was that even the right question you should ask now" he was asking Luna. Then, to Calliope, " What do they mean she did not leave the house at all?"

Rune caught Luna secretly rolling her eyes at him.

" Yes" Calliope cleared her throat. " They even came with tapes that carried her and their activity for the whole evening"

" It sounded like they were telling the truth. I mean, if the old woman wanted to poison us and her family were covering up for her, does that make them all killers?" Gizem said thoughtfully.

Her sister was always the one to think extra deep about a situation before making her opinion known. But this time, it didn't go well.

Half of the family wanted to eat her up for what she said.

"Of course they are lying! We all saw her with our very two eyes" Farris was sure and aggravated at the old woman's family claims.

Well, she was too.

" Now, if the CCTV camera doesn't carry the night's footage, we will be in trouble with the human police" August dropped his shoulders and informed.

" The police?" Amadio who had been silent all along asked with the deepest frown, deeper than the holes they had drilled into the walls of the house to hang their artifacts.

Calliope returned her explaining speech. " Yes, they called the cops on us for accusing them falsely- in their words and we even had to get the boy next door involved to come testify"

The boy next door, Rune gulped. They had gone ahead and put him in another possible danger.

" I can't believe this is happening and it's just our first week here!" Farris snapped, clearly annoyed and paranoid.

" And whose side is the police on?" Rune asked, also the first time she would speak this evening.

Calliope turned to her. " I guess ours at first, but that was until that bloody lying family came with their bloody lying tape" she flickered her tongue over her gums in disgust.

" They have a stronger alibi he said" August added, imitating someone's voice.

" Who?" Rune found herself asking more questions now that the boy next door had been mentioned.

There surely has to be something about him that gets to her.

" The stupid Sheriff!" Calliope supplied.

August's words did not surprise her. What surprised her was his partner not joining in with him in displaying their unseriousness. " You forgot to add how dirty he was picking at his teeth and oh, how I gained the title of the most benevolent original ever for not snapping his neck when he hit me with that cane!" he bellowed.

Everyone did to his nagging exactly what they deserved, tossed them aside and continued the more important discussion.

" So, what do we do now all?" Farris had begun his usual leader's vote casting.

" I say we kill the sheriff, then take the old woman from her home and torture her till she confesses" August, notwithstanding how he was previously ignored bellowed again.

And once again, he got ignored.

" I say we revist her again tonight and not follow the human rules" Gizem said and gave Luna a direct gaze. " We jump into her window and interrogate her when she's alone in her room. Maybe fear will make her confess" she finished.

Rune and probably all of them were expecting Luna to protest at the sound of breaking in someone's window again but she didn't.

" Oh, trouble follows us everywhere we go" she tapped her forehead instead.

" And what if she screams?" Rune asked, not liking to query her twin sister but she needed to this time.

They had no room to afford any mistakes anymore. Fender's life was in line.

Gizem who took no offense in the claim went ahead to present her plan B. " Then, I will summon all the male cats around into her room so when her family comes running in, they will find the army of cats and believe that was the object of her screams"

" So that even when she says the people next door was in her room, that is even if she knows our faces" Farris was saying until August squeaked in.

" I bet she don't"

Everyone could do with getting interrupted in their speech but not Farris. Surprisingly, this time, he let it slide. "So when she says some men or women were previously iosin the room, they will think they trauma of such sight was heavy on her old mind which made her hallucinated" he nodded serially.

" Sounds like a nice plan" Amadio chirped in.

Rune couldn't help but to smile, proud of her twin sister but the fact that the plan sounded nice didn't mean it would work.

She hoped to hell it would. They had no idea how much longer Fender could hold on.
