613. Curse the Sun

"You didn't have to wait for me," she said as she clung to him. "I can make my way to my room."

"Do you really think I would have left you? Curse the sun, it is the only reason I wasn't outside with you."

Mauve blushed at this, leaning her weight onto him. She heard Jean's footsteps and looked up the stairs to see him coming down. He seemed to be having a little trouble, but Mauve doubted it was any cause for concern.

"Jean," Jael called.

"Sire," Jean replied, halting his movements as he stiffly bent his head.

"Is there any news?" Jael asked.

"No, there isn't any," he said, his voice sounding unsteady.

"Do you think this will work?"

"I-it is too early to know just yet, sire, but so far she doesn't have any bad reaction to sunlight, and we will take that as a good sign. I will be sure to inform you if I do see some improvement in the coming days. I do hope to see some."

"Okay," Jael said stiffly. "Have a good rest."
