A few days had passed since the incident of the cult and the city was changing for the better. People no longer holed themselves in their houses as they helped the order to rebuild the city which was beyond human habitat. It was more like a shit hole where slaves used to live instead of a normal city.
" Captain, we have cleaned the west area completely. The stone crafters and blacksmiths are measuring the place for a suitable sewer system and the carpenters are examining the houses."
Jadaka showed his smile, wiping his sweat with the towel that was drenched from others' sweat, but he didn't mind it. The knights were his comrades and family.
" Good. We are progressing faster than we thought."
Aston leaned on the chair, looking at the busy people with a gentle face despite worrying about their future because he knew they would come here sooner or later and they wouldn't be as kind as cleric schools or paladins.
Ding*
Suddenly the tower of the main gate issued a bell ring as his face changed into a serious face, knowing the people whom he feared to meet came here.
He put on his cape, and walking outside from his tent with a serious face whilst hanging his sword on his belt.
" Jadaka, this is it. This is the moment that we have been waiting for."
He took a deep breath to warn his subordinates to be calm, believing they would anger these monsters. Every member of heresy inquisitor was at least master level and they hailed from the dark side of the churches which meant they didn't care about the lives of others.
The angry sound of hooves reached their ears as 5 men and women with black clothes came before them with jet-black horses. They covered their faces with thin fabric and their faces were cold enough to chill a person's heart.
" Master Aston, it has been a long time since we met. We heard the incident about your brother and we are here to investigate the clues about matter of the cults. Please cooperate with us."
The leading man came down while removing his veil to show his face. The cold black eyes of his observed the people with indifference, trying to pry into their hearts.
" I will do my best to cooperate with you, lord Ramses."
Aston bowed his head, looking at Ramses with slight fear in his face. This man was his instructor back days and he was a strict man who never showed mercy to anyone, including his students and family.
" Lead me to the mansion. Also, bring all those who are involved in the matter before dusk."
He commanded in a cold tone, gesturing the inquisitors to get down from their horses to follow him. The simple step of his feet brought immense pressure on others because he was one of the humans who was reaching the Saint realm.
" Aston, I heard you became a knight in the countryside but I never imagined you would involve yourself with the cult. Fortunately, you didn't betray my trust as you cleaved off their heads, yet a rat managed to escape from you."
Rammes spoke quietly, following from behind with a calm face. One might think he was praising his student but truthfully the intent was the opposite.
" Lord, I never a cardinal would be hiding here in our hometown. I was a blind and foolish man to believe in my brother's lies. I will accept any punishment you will give to me, but don't punish others because they already suffered enough due to my ignorance."
He opened his mouth with a sorrowful tone, knowing his teacher would punish him despite his achievements. He wasn't the type of man who would close his eyes in front of the sins.
" I hope you are prepared for my punishment. The leaders aren't happy with this region and your brother has been chipping away from our fund. Fortunately the culprit behind the scene is dead and I personally found our side rats."
His words sent chills down the spines of the knights next to him as they glanced at his sword that was sitting in its sheath.
