Connection

There were different types of spells that connected other living things to another but there were certain restrictions to them.

It could be done personally by the caster after they gained the trust or subdued the other side or it could be done from far away.

The method to set up a bond between both sides did require that initial contact but there were ways around it.

Lower grade witches with less power and had a lesser range of casting their spells would have to employ other methods to achieve things beyond their capabilities.

The most basic practice was to use an external item or source to aid in the spell or ritual.

Power could be stored up or drawn out from external sources while there were certain artefacts or ingredients that could help to create additional effects.

Some crueler mages would resort to drawing power from others or using human sacrifices while others would use stored up magic power they had collected over time.

If the mage was knowledgeable enough about the ley lines of the world then they could tap into that power to help with their ritual.

Others would just use specific recipes to help complete a ritual but there could be certain rules involved when those spells were cast.

Some needed to be done at a certain time of day, some could only be done on a full moon or eclipse while others would not be permanent.

The world of magic had its set rules and they were difficult to defy unless the mage was someone who was powerful enough to master those rules and could change, destroy and recreate them.

There could be loopholes to exploit by weaker mages but there could always be consequences for doing so, usually it was best to stick within the known rules when someone was still starting out on their path as a mage so that they could avoid any big failures and repercussions that resulted after the failure or a half success.

Blush had been lucky to encounter those that she had and learned from them.

The witches she met had different fields of study related to the ley lines, rituals and other practices to make magical items, potions and to even make contracts with others.

She slipped into a state where it was like she was in a lucid dream and travelled around the area where her body was sat.

Blush was searching for something that would aid her in her current situation.

A battle would soon begin if those ahead that blocked the way would not be so willing to let everyone pass peacefully.

Many types of strange feelings came from around her which were not here own.

Her overall sensitivity to her surroundings had expanded and reached out further.

Her soul called out and a vague image was beginning to form as the many feelings and noises were filtered out after being rejected.

The spell was meant to be used by a lesser mage so that it would allow a bond to be built.

Compatibility played a major role but so did the users individual magic power and mental strength.

If they could not subdue the other side then they had to find one among them that was willing to accept the bond.

There were many out there that had a stubborn temperament and would refuse to submit to someone weak so they could put up some resistance once a bond was trying to be established.

Blush had stronger and purer magic power than the witch she encountered in the past but that was not all, she possessed psychic powers too which aided her further to seek out a connection that suited her needs within a certain sphere of range.

Her consciousness drifted between different connections that could be formed as she thought about her future goals. "It needs to be strong but not overly big. It cannot be too small either so that its killing potential will not be reduced."

A bond had been discarded one after another as small insects, rodents and birds were denied a connection to her.

Her range extended further as she kept searching which caused a further burden on her powers.

The more that she tried to force things, the more that she would have to use up more power and mental strength to seek out her partner.

A large bear had been connected to her for a moment but she quickly rejected it. 'Too big to take around.'

A tiger and lion were found a little later but she cut off the connection. 'I am not really a cat person.. what else could be used to bring around, is a decent size and will not be difficult to raise or bring around?'

There were some types of animals that could be kept and could be domesticated, some people even domesticated dinosaurs so it would not be strange to do the same for other wild animals.

Blush wanted something that would fit into those kind of categories and could be something that would serve as her guard.

Every mage needed a familiar that could cover for their weaknesses and could perform many other duties.

'Awoooooooooo!'

Deep within her, there was a loud howl and she tugged upon that connection which let her find the source of the noise.

An aggressive feeling spread through the connection but there was a hint of rage and fear mixed within.

It was resisting the connection to Blush but it seemed to have some troubles of its own.

A lone wolf was cornered by many others and it had been trapped within a valley further within the forest.

It had golden brown fur and three dark furred wolves had trapped it.

The wolves were very aggressive and difficult to deal with especially when they hunted as packs, even a wolf that seemed to possess a slightly golden coat of fur which was rumoured to be a symbol as the boss of wolves that surpasses the other species would feel threatened when cornered by a group of them.

The coat of the wolf that was cornered was not completely golden so its species could not be completely recognised as one of the boss wolves, it vigilantly stood its ground and still stubbornly resisted Blush when it was in in danger so it intended to fight to the death rather than submit.

Blush did not wish to see that so she forced the connection using her own power. "Gotta do this quickly. If you resist then it will only be worse for you."

The golden brown wolf had shown a little pain as it tried to resist and the other wolves saw an opportunity to attack.

The next moment, the closed eyes of the golden brown wolf had opened its eyes coldly and quickly assessed the surroundings. 'Sorry but I will take over for now.'

She could sense the anger of the golden brown wolf that had been suppressed but Blush controlled the body of the wolf to jump to the side to avoid the bite that came towards her.

Two wolves had clumsily bumped into each other and Blush saw an opening.

She wasted no time as she ran at full speed away from the wolves which chased her through the valley and to location where her carriage was. "Awooo!"

Blush did not wish to see her potential familiar be injured or die so easily so she forced the connection and led the wolf to escape rather than fight.

It was cornered in the valley but it was only three wolves that were weaker than it, so long as she was smart about it, there would be no need to suffer any injuries.

The golden brown wolf was about to fight all three of the wolves so it would have sustained some injuries from the bites or scratches while one mistake could have led to its death.

Blush had hunted wolves before and knew a lot of their patterns so they were easier for her to predict.

Once they were readying themselves to pounce forward onto her, Blush readied herself to avoid it and used that opening to escape.

Her practice when shapeshifting into other forms had helped to be familiar with the use of the wolf body so it was not difficult for her to control the body of the wolf to accomplish what she did.

The three wolves did follow behind her and did not give up but another plan had formed her mind which caused her wolf to show its fangs as it seemed to he grinning.

The familiar bond had been forcefully completed and Blush made use of it right away to take control of it so that it could survive and head towards her destination right as soon as possible.

There was not a lot of time to worry about free will and using force when its life was at risk already and there would be more time later to apologise and make up for her forceful actions.

The connection formed did not mean that they were perfectly bonded and would be perfect companions together while such a start to their bond may even cause problems but it could be worked on over time.

Meanwhile back on the road, there were many people that arrogantly blocked the carriages and a large man was carrying a large axe that would be used to chop down trees had sat on the fallen tree which blocked the way.

It did not take long for demands to be made for to hand over the women and anything of value so any kind of negotiations broke down soon after.
