Chapter 68

"Are we there yet?" Asked Asami, holding her arms together while shaking.

It was so cold in the desert at this time of the night.

After they had defeatedthe dragon, the group headed toward the library. They had been guided by Korra, who was led by the spirit of the light.

Korra shook her head. "Raava says that we aren't so far from reaching it."

"We can take a little break," Kuvira said. "It would be wise to recharge our energy. A larger battle is waiting ahead of us."

Beifong shook her head. "That's a bad idea. While Zaheer and the spirits are moving across the world, this time would be the best to strike. Every second we waste, the spirits may take to come back and strengthen their defence."

She's a cop, and she has wide experience. Attacking the library was no different from attacking a triad. The speed and the element of the surprise were the key elements.

"I see." Kuvira nodded. "But I don't think that the library is without a guard. If we reached there on bad terms, it won't be to our advantage."

"Let's ask Chen." Lin's eyelid shook as she moved her eye to the most silent guy, who had been a pain in the ass lately. He'd said that he was on her side of her family conflict, only to find out that he'd told Suyin that Lin is missing her little sister.

She later would tell him how family conflicts aren't something he should mess up with. Still, Lin doubted that would work.

After all, Chen wasn't the guy you can predict. Even when he says he would go your way, you can never know what he's planning. He always seemed to be a man with a plan. But he always keeps everything to himself. And if he shared, he would share the bare minimum.

Moreover, he was a playboy. He seemed to take everything as a game. But he was a very serious player.

Lin had always hated that trait. When Chen is relaxed, he would do things to his amusement.

She needed to give him a lesson that people's life wasn't a game he plays with to his amusement.

They have feelings — she had feelings. He'd even flirted with her once to get outside of the troubles.

'I'll punish him once this is over. I'm a woman of my word.'

"Well?" Kuvira said.

"Chen," Lin called as she looked at Chen, who was walking with his eyes closed.

Chen had said that he would contact the dragon, which had absorbed it, for some answers.

Since he didn't reply, he was

'Who would have expected that he would become an Avatar.' Lin lowered her head.

Chen was closing his eyes, meditating while walking.

Meditation wasn't something hard to do.

All you have to do is to be aware of your breaths or a tune until you get into the flow state.

Chen had been meditating to his Chi, and after some time, he found himself in front of the ancient dragon in a dark space.

"I see that you have got back to your previous size," Chen said, looking at the dragon. "And your eye is healed as well."

"You can say so. Now that I got my energy, which was yours, I'm fully healed."

"So this means that you accepted defeat."

"Never." The dragon said. "You've shown that you deserve my power, that's why I let you get me. I just didn't want to embarrass you in front of your friends, so I pretended to lose."

Chen's eyes almost fell from his skull. This dragon was so shameless that he would never admit defeat.

"Thanks for taking it easy on the blood benders then." Chen cupped his fists. "If not for you playing along with them, you would have defeated me. But I think that had been a part of your plan."

The dragon went silent for a moment. He narrowed his eyebrows at Chen before saying. "Yes, whatever."

"Now, I think you know why I'm here," Chen said in what seemed his mental space.

"You want to know who you are going to face, and what you are going to face."

"Right," Chen said. "If not…" he will simply split the dragon with minimum energy, which would actually be bad for Chen since the existence of the dragon would allow him to regenerate energy faster.

"You got more experienced… Hmm…" the dragon shook his head. "Fine, show me what you are going to do with my mighty power.

"As for your questions, you will face two things. The first is the ancient spirits, some of you can't kill. There should be three in the library if you don't count the Avatars."

"The Avatars?" Chen narrowed his eyebrows.

"Remember the lavabender you killed?"

"Yes."

"The phoenix has resurrected the man's body, but not its soul. That allowed the spirits to use that body after it was revived."

"Meaning I have a lavabender with some ancient spirit's power to worry about." Chen mentally sighed. "But you said Avatars."

"They found a way to possess a human without harming them completely." Said the dragon. "Zaheer's soul can leave his body. Meanwhile, a spirit will get in. The soul is the source of spiritual energy, which you know as Chi. Zaheer and the owl found a way to avoid the conflict that happens when they fuse their energy. They don't fuse it, but they keep the energy in different chakra points. Zaheer keeps his energy in the brain chakra. The rest is owned by a spirit… you have an outstanding bender and a spirit together.

"But unlike you, they can't combine their energies. You should know what that means. there are two who can control one body. It can be to your advantage or disadvantage, depending on their teamwork."

"I can assume that the rest of the group doesn't have such a power," Chen said.

"Yes." He said. "But you should be careful."

"Why are you warning me?" Chen asked. "Wouldn't it be better if I died and you got free?"

"It would be indeed. But as you see, I'm in my mortal form here since I didn't travel through the portals. If you die, I die."

Chen sighed and smiled. 'That's good to hear.'

"Well, you'll have your chance later," Chen said.

"What do you mean by that." The dragon asked.

"You'll find out." Chen's focus, which had been on his Chi, took a drift. The dragon vanished from the dark space, and his eyelids shook. When he opened them.

As he opened his eyes, he was met with the image of Lin staring at him with a weird gaze.

"What?" he asked.

"I've called you around 6 times."

"And?"

"You heard me, didn't you?" she asked in suspicion.

"Why do you assume that?" Chen wondered.

"You smiled when I yelled." She said.

Chen exhaled a sigh and shook his head. "I'm too old for this argument."

"So you are hinting at my age. Unbelievable. I'll deal with you later." Lin crossed her arms and turned her head.

Korra and Asami chuckled. Korra said to Asami, "You'll get used to that. It's always funny when Chen gets to the police station."

"Well, he never told me that," Asami said.

"So." Kuvira interrupted, "What are we going to face."

"A revived Avatar, and a pseudo-one," Chen said. "The spirits, in total, should be three in the library. Three spirits, and 4 incredible benders. I tough battle."

Amon chuckled. "It would be only tough if we were to hold back." He said. "I will snap the neck of whosoever will appear. Not going to make old mistakes again."

That brought an old memory to Chen.

Chen rubbed the back of his neck. "Just don't become a human shield. I won't hold back my fire this time."

"Asshole," Amon muttered so low that it was hard to hear.

"Jerk." Replied Chen, as loud as possible. "But you know what to do."

"Yeah, yeah. Freeze them while you finish." Amon said.

With Tarrlok and Amon, the coming fight should be very smooth. The blood benders would freeze the enemies, while Korra and Chen do the rest.

"We arrived." Korra suddenly called, and everyone stopped.
