Chapter 21

The police chief reached the centre of the city. They were in front of the highest building. This was the place where the council should be living. Lin took a turn around the building, and she said. "Get out."

Chen didn't reply to her. He closed his coat and got out. Lin then descended from the car and said. "Let's go."

Chen put his hands in his pockets. He didn't make any expression and followed her.

He stopped when he saw two people. One of them was a bald man in monk clothes and an arrow tattoo on his head. He was tall, around 188 cm, and he was thin. One needed to tell him to add meat to his meals.

Next to him was a beautiful young tanned girl. She was around 170 cm tall, her body was in a good shape with some elegant muscles on her. She had blue eyes and black hair that was tied in a ponytail with two locks on the side. She was wearing native clothes to the southern water tribes -- blue tight shirt and louse black pants, which showed her upper half details. Her body was quite muscular and toned, yet feminine at the same time. Her boobs were large for her age though.

He could tell who are these people from the show.

'The girl is Korra. The guy is Tentin? Tounsin… toutin… Ben Ten? '

'I swear, it starts with ten.'

"Meet these guys. This is Korra, the Avatar, and this is Tenzin, the councilman." Lin introduced.

Chen gave a slight nod. "Nice to meet you.

Tenzin bowed his head slightly.

On the other hand, the chick, Korra clenched her fists and stared at him.

"I know you. You're Chen! The one who is known for a perfect knockout streak. I have to say, your last match was fantastic." She pushed a few times in the air. "That purple flame was a surprise. The way you scared that guy to jump off the ring was the shot of the season. Though, it ruined your hattrick."

Chen smiled and extended his hand. "Look like you know me."

Although he was smiling, it was only a form of manners.

Korra put her hands behind her head. She giggled. "Sorry, I talked too much."

Chen observed her pose, it matched the ton of her body.

"It's okay. I've seen a couple of your matches. You're doing well. Hang on, and you'll be a better waterbender." He said, lying a bit. He'd only heard about them on the radio.

"Oh, so you've seen them." Her smile grew bigger.

"Hope you improve by the time of the tournament."

"Let's hope I get to be part of it." She said. "We are one win away from it from the tournament."

"I'm sure we'll meet again," Chen replied.

Lin stood between Korra and Chen, interrupting. "Enough you two. We have a bloodbender to take down. Continue your stupid tournament talk when we're done."

Korra glared at Lin and scoffed.

Tenzin relaxed his arms and exhaled a long sigh. He then made a firm expression.

"Tarrlok, I always knew something was off with him. So it appears that he'd been attempting to take over the city. I should have foreseen that earlier." Tenzin said. He turned to Chen and asked. "So you are supposed to be the bright mind who discovered him."

Chen stared at the monk, who was using aristocratic language.

"Yep." Answered Chen in simple language.

"How have you come to that conclusion."

"Hard work." Chen said, "We don't have time to waste. Chief, you have your witness."

"Yes," Lin answered, narrowing her eyebrow at him.

"Let's get in,"  Tenzin said, pushing his monk cap and entering first.

-x-X-x-

As everyone entered, Chen was left to stand on the floor above between one of the many bookshelves. He found a nice spot to hide. He looked down, to one large room with a bookshelf covering the walls.

Lin, Korra, and Tenzin entered.

Tarrlok, who was at his desk reading a book, lifted his eyes. He took his glasses off, and he said.  "To what I owe the honour for the son of Aang, the Police Chief and the Avatar visiting me," Tarrlok said.

He was a tall tanned muscular man with braided hair.

"You owe it to no one, you dirty bloodbender." Lin stepped forward and put her foot on the desk, ruining the book.

Tarrlok narrowed his eyebrows, seeming not to understand Lin's words.

"I have no idea what you are talking about."

The other foot of Lin wasn't covered in her metal armour. In that state, she could act as a lie detector.

"I can smell the stink you have from your father's blood," Lin said. "And I have a witness. Fong, come in."

From the door entered a young man who had his hand around his neck.

Fong got in and pointed his finger at the councilman. "He'd kidnapped me and put me in an isolated place. I can witness everything he did to me, and I can prove that it was his propriety of which he threw me too."

"Unbelievable!" Tarrlok slammed his hands on the table and stood up. He turned to Tenzin and said, pointing to Lin, "She and her man are conspiring to take me down. Tenzin, I can't believe an honest man like you, the son of the previous Avatar, would believe such a thing without solid proof. How did I blood bend that man? Ask him when he was kidnapped, and let's see if it happened during the full moon."

"These are serious claims, Tarrlok. You can have a fair trial." Tenzin said. "If the evidence is with you, you are going to be free."

"Tenzin!" Lin yelled. "There is no need for that! I, the Chief Police, have seen him bloodbending my man. I was the one to plant him. I have all of the authority in the world to take Tarrlok down and interrogate him.

"Moreover, I have seen his background, and he's the son of the Yakone. The name of Tarrlok's father, and the name of Yakone's fake name after the plastic surgery matches."

"I have the whole right to defend myself if you don't show me a warrant." Tarrlok took a bending stance, grabbing water from a near artificial waterfall. For the first time, Tarrlok looked worried. But he kept playing along.

"Tarrlok, she has all of the right to arrest you," Tenzin said. "We will then interrogate your background. If Yakone is your father, then you have no right to be in the council."

"What! Unbelievable!" Tarrlok clenched his teeth, and he extended his hands. From the water next to him, sharp spikes headed at them.

"Humph, don't push your luck, old man!" Korra smirked. She raised her hands, creating a wall from the ground. Tenzin jumped and shoot a compressed air stream at Tarrlok, who didn't see it coming. Tarrlok was sent flying. When his body hit the shelf, Korra swept her hands. Another bookshelf moved and sandwiched Tarrlok.

As the bookshelf fell, the waterbender stood up from the mess. His hair and clothes became messy. With an angry expression, he stared at them.

"You are insisting on taking me down, so be it." He smirked. "This is all of your fault for getting into my plans. I can't let people know my father's name.  If you all disappear, no one will find out the truth."

"Oh yeah! And how are you going to do that." Korra asked, taking a firebending stance.

'Stupid question, but I need an answer for that too.'

Chen wanted to learn how bloodbending worked and Tarrlok was about to use it.

Tarrlok smirked at Korra. He opened his left eye widely. There was a half second to one second time until Korra's body froze. She floated a bit in the air.

Tarrlok lifted his hands, controlling Korra's body.

"Come on. Will just shut the fuck up, Korra." Said Tarrlok angrily.

'Huh?' Chen seemed to realise something. But to confirm it, he needed to wait for the others to react.

Tarrlok turned to the rest, who were about to react. He opened his eye wider, and the rest froze, struggling with moving their bodies.

It seems that he wasn't bending them. Yet, at the same time, he used his Chi to freeze them.

He needed to glare at them first. And there was a small time lag until his bending took effect.

He looked at Korra, and the spell didn't break from the others.

'Okay, remark it. There is half to a one-second window if he used his eyes. He only freezes the blood.'

'So, it means, once a bloodbender look in your direction, you're under his control.'

They also need to see you. Tarrlok started mocking everyone as bent their bodies in the air.

"Well, I have to get rid of you forever. I believe that the equalists will take the blame. After I take them down, I'll be the hero of the city, and I will gain more power."

Lin, Tenzin, Korra and Fong were struggling, unable to talk. Chen jumped off the higher shelf and reached the ground.

Tarrlok noticed him and said. "Someone else?"

"Stupid…" muttered Lin.

Tarrlok turned to Chen. Just as he was about to open his eye widely, Chen swept his hands on the ground, creating a wall of violet fire that spread 5 meters around him. It burned everything, creating smoke.

Tarrlok waved his hand, bending the water to turn off the fire. Steam rose, and once it vanquished, the view was clear. Chen wasn't there. He'd used his Chi Control to increase his speed 3 folds plus using Fire Steps to boost that speed.

He just appeared behind the councilman.

He placed his hand on Tarrlok's shoulder, and he said. "Jackpot."

From Chen's hand, lightning was released. Tarrlok's body glowed up in blue colour. For a brief, his skeleton appeared.

As the councilman fell concussion, a burning smell spreading from his body, the group fell to their knees.

Korra, Lin, Tenzin and the new guy, regained control over their bodies.

Chen heard the notification. He felt that he'd beaten a strong boss. The sweet notification was too good to be true, and he almost fell. Lin put her hand on his shoulder.

"Are you okay? You almost fell." Lin said, for the first time she sounded normal.

"Am I?" Chen replied with a question, before looking at Tarrlok.
